We got to Yur Gerichtslaube by chance, as we booked a restaurant near by but once we got to it, it looked terrible. At the beginning I wasn't convinced, it looked like another touristic place, but in the end I decided to give it a try and was a very good idea. We had: fried pears filled with blue cheese,... More

Zur Gerichtstaube is a fantastic restaurant that is housed in a gorgeous 13th century building with a superb beer garden and is located in Nikolaiviertel (Nikolai Quarter) of Berlin in the neighbourhood area called Mitte.Zur Gerichtstaube has in my opinion one of the best interiors to any restaurant or pub in Nikolaiviertel with many original features such as the arched... This place is an excellent place to try some local specialties. I am not a fan of German cuisine but this restaurant served it right. All the dishes were ok, lots of meat, cabbage and potatoes. Don't count the calories. The restaurant is also very beautiful as it is in an old building in one of the most charming squares... More

We looked up a couple of traditional Berlin cuisine places online in search of pork knuckle and this was first on the list.... did not disappoint! The food was incredible, as was the beer (recommended: dark), and the waiters and waitresses were prompt. We were serenaded by a Spanish band following the meal as an added bonus! Be warned though:... More

We visited this restaurant for dinner after walking around the area during the day and deciding it would be a good place to have dinner that evening. When we arrived at the restaurant and asked for a table for two we were advised that there would be a ten minute wait, this did not bother us as it gave us... More

If you are looking for some german dishes, this restaurant is perfect for it! The quality of the food is really good and well cooked. You have to try the white wine! The prices are fair and the atmosphere inside is really nice. The service is also good and surprise for the decoration inside! I'll come back for sure!

We found this restaurant in our guide book and we were not disappointed. In a lovely part of historic Berlin we decided to have lunch. You arrive into a goodsize area with tables and sun canopies. We asked to look around the building, an old courthouse, and we were shown into the building with a "please feel free to look... More

This place was recommend by a local friend when I told him that I wanted to have a real German experience. It is a small place (reservations are mandatory), with good beer options and several typical dishes from Berlin. I ordered the Grand Feast Berliner style and really enjoyed it very much. Do not miss it. It is located in... More

We are both lawyers, so this place sounded attractive! Gerichtslaube essentially means the courthouse annex or patio. The building looks and feels very medieval. The food and the beer were classic German! This was a good German-style pub. The service was a bit slow, but very accommodating. At the end of our night, we asked them to call us a... More

The area is great, the outside garden (where we ate) was also amazing. The staff was very kind as well. Regardless of the above, we had to wait quite long. And when the food came, it was a bit of a dissapointment. It tasted uninspiring. More of a touristtrap than a great place to eat.

Staying in Mitte

Neighborhood Profile
Mitte
The center of Berlin, Mitte is most famous for sights like the Brandenburg Gate, Alexanderplatz, and Museum Island. The central location makes this one of the city's most expensive places to live. It is here the oldest traces of the city can be found, and evidence of some significant transformations, as well. The gangsters that once ruled the impoverished streets between Alexanderplatz and Hackescher Markt have given way to an international crowd pursuing fashionable designer clothes, the newest food trends and frequenting the many craft shops. Graphic designers have taken up residence in what used to be backyard barns and stables. There are still vestiges of the old days, however. The occasional housing complex is a reminder of the neighborhood’s past. And if you look carefully, an old 1920s ball house nestled amongst the art galleries and exhibitions of Auguststrasse can still teach you how to dance the old fashioned way.
