We came here for a late Friday afternoon lunch. We had just arrived in Berlin, and as we had enjoyed this place previously, decided to make it our first port of call. The weather was warm and we managed to grab a table outside. Service was very slow. A waitress did take our drinks order, but must have forgotten as... More

First let me say that I recommend going here. The food is quite different to many other restaurants we have been to. The wines are also good. Look to the other tables for ideas about your own choices. The service was initially good and our orders were taken and recommendations made. Toward the end there was no service at all...... More

Nice cozy place with great ambiance. My husband and I had a late dinner there on a Friday night and were glad we were able to get a decent table without a reservation. It was very busy and we had to flag down the servers for service but it wasn't a problem. I had the smoked pork with potato salad... More

We got to the restaurant at 7pm and their was a table with a reserved at 6:30 sign on it so we asked if we could have it. The waitress said that's fine as long as the people who reserved don't show up in the next 10 minutes. We sat and ordered our food and it arrived and was good.... More

This place is very popular so you should book in advance. Very tasty German dishes, lovely traditional interior and a nice atmosphere as it's usually busy. Great central location.

We had a meal with my family some days ago. Good german plates. Good but not memorable. Too crowded for my taste.

A nice typical restaurant for local food. The atmosphere is great, beer very good, the food... Well, not really my taste, but it is nice if you are into typical german cooking!

Great place to bring friends who want to try traditional German food. The restaurant has fun kitschy decor and the location in Mitte is very convenient. Portions are large so arrive hungry!

We took a very short tram ride from our hotel to eat at Schwarzwaldstuben which had been recommended in a Rick Steve's book. The food was good, our waitress friendly and helpful, and the atmosphere steeped in old style American folk/rock music. It was good.

Thank BruceMN

Staying in Mitte

Neighborhood Profile
The center of Berlin, Mitte is most famous for sights like the Brandenburg Gate, Alexanderplatz, and Museum Island. The central location makes this one of the city's most expensive places to live. It is here the oldest traces of the city can be found, and evidence of some significant transformations, as well. The gangsters that once ruled the impoverished streets between Alexanderplatz and Hackescher Markt have given way to an international crowd pursuing fashionable designer clothes, the newest food trends and frequenting the many craft shops. Graphic designers have taken up residence in what used to be backyard barns and stables. There are still vestiges of the old days, however. The occasional housing complex is a reminder of the neighborhood’s past. And if you look carefully, an old 1920s ball house nestled amongst the art galleries and exhibitions of Auguststrasse can still teach you how to dance the old fashioned way.
