A nice typical restaurant for local food. The atmosphere is great, beer very good, the food... Well, not really my taste, but it is nice if you are into typical german cooking!

Great hearty food, good beer and very affordable. Good German beers on tap. Just what we were looking for

Great place to bring friends who want to try traditional German food. The restaurant has fun kitschy decor and the location in Mitte is very convenient. Portions are large so arrive hungry!

We took a very short tram ride from our hotel to eat at Schwarzwaldstuben which had been recommended in a Rick Steve's book. The food was good, our waitress friendly and helpful, and the atmosphere steeped in old style American folk/rock music. It was good.

We were looking for some traditional German food and Schwarzwaldstuben did not disappoint. The restaurant is quite quaint, meals are generous and service is quick and friendly.

I went with a friend to get some traditional german food. We weren't disappointed. I had the best beer of my trip to Berlin here. We had such a great time. The food took a while but it was worthy. You should go there when you're not in a hurry. We had a starter, to main courses, dessert, beer and... More

Coming from that particular region, I can confirm that the food served in the Schwarzwaldstube is not only very good but also authentic. At the end, if you also want to taste true German food, that is the place to go! Maultaschen my favorite, try it yourself.

This is a local restaurant and bar serving some Schwabian specialities. It feels relaxed and homely but service for us was quick and friendly. It's in the Mitte area but really feels like its a local rather than tourist place; hugely better than the tourist places on the main road near to it. The spatzle and maultschen were very good... Good news/women run restaurant w egalitarian first come first serve/seated principles (i.e. 4 people don't bump 1 in a seating area). First visit better than 2nd as it was in late evening and I had the german vegetarian pizza equivalent and great service (sun. eve 930 pm). Second time--white asparagus food was great/slow food concept became an excuse to never... More

We visited on a Monday night with a party of 15 people and had to have a very restrictive menu. The food served was well cooked but totally overdosed with the potato salad, way too much. Portions are very generous, but this is the Germanic way. As a large group, we were placed in a corner of the restaurant near... More

Staying in Mitte

Neighborhood Profile
The center of Berlin, Mitte is most famous for sights like the Brandenburg Gate, Alexanderplatz, and Museum Island. The central location makes this one of the city's most expensive places to live. It is here the oldest traces of the city can be found, and evidence of some significant transformations, as well. The gangsters that once ruled the impoverished streets between Alexanderplatz and Hackescher Markt have given way to an international crowd pursuing fashionable designer clothes, the newest food trends and frequenting the many craft shops. Graphic designers have taken up residence in what used to be backyard barns and stables. There are still vestiges of the old days, however. The occasional housing complex is a reminder of the neighborhood’s past. And if you look carefully, an old 1920s ball house nestled amongst the art galleries and exhibitions of Auguststrasse can still teach you how to dance the old fashioned way.
