We came across this restaurant by chance. We wanted traditional German food washed down with good German beer. This place ticked both boxes and then some. The place was buzzing but we managed to get two places sharing a table. The service was very efficient and friendly. Would definitely go back

Great location, easy to get to on foot or by train, very good multilingual staff, food and bier just right. Could not fault it. As the weather was very good (end of Sept) we sat out by the riverside several times. Atmosphere was excellent especially in the evenings, late night!

Our concierge recommended this restaurant for German food, and also because it was the site of the West German consolate to East Germany during the cold war. The restaurant has a sort of beer hall like atmosphere, with high ceilings, long tables and pictures everywhere. We enjoyed our meal there. My husband had a tasty Schweinhaxen and I had the... More

We dined here a couple of times during our recent visit to the city. The food and beer are superb and the atmosphere is excellent. Thoroughly enjoyable.

Went here last night because we were on a hunt for sauerbraten. I got the Italian flammenkucken (best way I can describe this is German pizza, pizza toppings on a pastry like crust), and my husband had the sauerbraten- both were delicious! The menu is translated into 4 languages (German, English, Spanish and French) so ordering was a breeze and... More

Great restaurant, excellent food and Koelsch for those who remember the days when the restaurant was located in Bonn. I loved the rustic and simple atmosphere, the posters and the fun quotes, i.e. 'Peoples who have such boxers, football players, tennis players and race drivers can easily live without its universities' etc. Its a great place for a fun evening.

Are you in the center of Berlin? Oh... You have to go there! It don't look like a touristic place! Is nice, warm and really cool place to drink a lot of beer and taste the German food! Good quality and really good prices! It really worth it! BUT! Be careful! When you order your first glass of beer! Lol!... More

Staying in Mitte

Neighborhood Profile
The center of Berlin, Mitte is most famous for sights like the Brandenburg Gate, Alexanderplatz, and Museum Island. The central location makes this one of the city's most expensive places to live. It is here the oldest traces of the city can be found, and evidence of some significant transformations, as well. The gangsters that once ruled the impoverished streets between Alexanderplatz and Hackescher Markt have given way to an international crowd pursuing fashionable designer clothes, the newest food trends and frequenting the many craft shops. Graphic designers have taken up residence in what used to be backyard barns and stables. There are still vestiges of the old days, however. The occasional housing complex is a reminder of the neighborhood’s past. And if you look carefully, an old 1920s ball house nestled amongst the art galleries and exhibitions of Auguststrasse can still teach you how to dance the old fashioned way.
