I mean this as a compliment. They have managed to carve out a unique venue that tourists flock to, by providing a good quality, unique product in great location although at elevated prices. Service was great and the koelsch was cold which is why most people come. I did not try the food, but everyone around me seemed to like... More

This place has a unique character. Whether it is the history that surrounds this place, or the food, or the ambience - we truly enjoyed our time here.

Friendly Rhineland attitude in sometimes "too Prussian" Berlin. Authentic German cuisine, loved the Matjes Herring filets and Bratkartoffeln, the view on the river, the attentive and polite service and not to forget the "Koelsch" beer.

We were looking for a restaurant serving authentic german food and this really fit the bill. Pleasant outdoor seating overlooking the river. Food was delicious. Strongly recommend the Apfelstrudel. Service excellent.

This restaurant was very busy on a Thursday evenig. As we have been a group of 8, it was good to have a reservation. What can I say: even if it was so busy, our waitress made a great job. The food was good and the drinks came quickly! Lots of photos from famous politicians and only community tables. So... More

Sitting outside along the water makes this restaurant a must do for a trip to Berlin. The beer on tap was excellent. The sauerbraten was excellent. The service was friendly and attentive. Really nice spot for traditional German food.

SV serves good and cold bier, an amazing food (try the flammkuchen which is one of the best in Berlin), and the service is always very professional, efficient and great.

My fiancé and I were so glad we passed by this lively German restaurant and decided to have dinner there. The atmosphere was buzzing - clearly a favourite haunt amongst the locals! I ordered the traditional meatballs which were very tasty and came with gorgeous little fried potatoes. My fiancé chose the pork knuckle (the thought of which grossed me... More

If you appreciate relaxed and informal atmosphere with friendly, straightforward personel you have to pop in Staendige Vertretung. It reminds more of a pub with not so polished furniture. The interior is worth seeing: the walls are covered with so much photos and other historical documents mostly since the 2. world war and connected to the customers of the Staendige... More

Staying in Mitte

Neighborhood Profile
The center of Berlin, Mitte is most famous for sights like the Brandenburg Gate, Alexanderplatz, and Museum Island. The central location makes this one of the city's most expensive places to live. It is here the oldest traces of the city can be found, and evidence of some significant transformations, as well. The gangsters that once ruled the impoverished streets between Alexanderplatz and Hackescher Markt have given way to an international crowd pursuing fashionable designer clothes, the newest food trends and frequenting the many craft shops. Graphic designers have taken up residence in what used to be backyard barns and stables. There are still vestiges of the old days, however. The occasional housing complex is a reminder of the neighborhood’s past. And if you look carefully, an old 1920s ball house nestled amongst the art galleries and exhibitions of Auguststrasse can still teach you how to dance the old fashioned way.
