A cozy and inviting place tucked away in the Excelsior Hotel, about a 15-minute walk from Marienplatz. The menu is limited, but in a good way – the focus is on the wine. Everything pairs well with the truly amazing and extensive (not kidding) wine...list. We decided to ask our waiter for wine recommendations, as we wanted to discover more about German wines. He directed us to a very dry Riesling from their own vineyard. It was surprisingly dry and superb. I would recommend this for anyone who loves wine, or who is seeking quality Italian cooking in Munich.More

Before getting on the train to Amsterdam we had two hours left for a decent lunch. It was raining cats and dogs so it needed to be close to das Hauptbahnhof. But then we found Vinothek by Geisel, a lovely, luxurious winebar with an extensive...wine list of 46 pages covering most interesting wineareas in the world with a nice emphasis on wines from the German speaking countries, Italy and France. They have a nice two course luncmenu with drinks for 21 euros but we ordered a la carte. Prosciutto San Daniele with mozarella on the side, marinated Speck from Valtellina, various bruschette, pennette arrabiata, vitello tonatto and a big cheese platter with frutta di mostarda. Most of the food is Italian inspired with the emphasis on northern Italy but they also serve more classic German food. I asked them to serve me regional wines although Bayern is not a wine producer except Franken. I had a Markelsheimer rose and merlot and a nice chardonnay. Excellent coffee and personal and very friendly service. What a nice.place. not cheap but worth all the money.More

My wife did the homework, finding Vinothek (pronounced Veenoh-Tek) as part of our Munich-Venice holiday sojourn. Her research was affirmed with a strong recommendation from our concierge (superb) at our excellent hotel (Eden Hotel Wolff). Barely a five-minute stroll found us rewarded with a restaurant...combining classy with cozy…underscored by terrific cuisine. Our foursome had dishes ranging from seafood risotto (saffron seasoning A+) to beef tartar to saltimbocca to lamb. MVI (item) award to the singularly succulent warm, olive-oil-infused bread. MVI #2 – prosciutto w/buffalo mozzarella. MVI #3 – our server, Lita (sp.) and the entire serving staff. Proficient, courteous, personable and overall dedicated to making sure our meal was satisfactory. It was memorable. If you are aiming for a dining variation on the standard Bavarian fare (read sausage), within a comfortable, unhurried setting, find your way to VinoThek.More

I would have given this place five stars if it wasn’t for one thing. The wine list is extensive and well priced. We had a bottle of white Rioja and ordered a large plate of cheeses. The waitress first brought a plate of prosciutto which...we assumed it was part of the cheese selection. When we got the bill, we were charged an additional €8 for it. We didn’t order any prosciutto. We were not sure whether it was deliberate or just a mistake (our server repeated the order to us so we ruled out a mistake). We paid as we ate the prosciutto but it spoiled an otherwise excellent experience.More

Had a long lunch with exceptional food and service. We were seated at a nice table in the corner amidst the hubbub of a full restaurant. We chose from the specials board after the waiter kindly translated for us. The venison and lamb main courses...were excellent and very well cooked and presented. The service was unhurried, thoroughly professional yet friendly at the same time. It was the high spot of a short break. Really good.More
