My husband and I have been enjoying going to Maria's Wirtshaus Zum Spreisel since 2009. Every year we visit the restaurant and is still our first choice for all our guests, (more of a tradition now) big or small groups from around the world! We enjoy the personal touch from Maria and her staff, the beautiful location, and surely the... More

Zum Spreisel is located on the ground level at the Hotel Hollander Hof, but it's not operated by the hotel. It specializes in local and regional dishes, and they do not disappoint. The menu is quite varied, everything I saw coming out of the kitchen looked wonderful, and nearby diners were exclaiming about their meals in several languages. The owner/manager... More

We found a remarkably quiet table outside overlooking the historic old bridge. Be sure to check out the poster with the seasonal dishes -- we had an excellent asparagus soup was a starter. There's also a small selection of Greek dishes (the owner's wife is Greek). After spending a few days exploring the German cuisine, which is good, but rather... More

This was our first meal in Germany. It is just across from the iconic Alte Brucke, which in the US would likely mean they could get away with being overpriced AND terrible, but since this is Europe it was a quality meal if just slightly expensive. I had the Haxe, one of the kids had Schnitzel and another had some... More

The location is awesome-just steps away from the the river and bridge. The tomato soup is the best I have ever eaten. The Goulash was amazing and paired with the duck fat fried sliced potatoes I wanted to lick the plate clean! My favorite part of dinner was the owner, Maria, she made you feel like a guest not just... More

Having dined at Wirtshaus zum Spreisel several of times, I was very confident in the food, charm, and service for dining inside with a family sized group. But I was in charge of something BIGGER! It was my turn to book the monthly "Guys Night Out" for the fathers from school. The date was set, and the consensus among the... More

Good restaurant by the river, menu in both German and English. Great choice of traditional dishes, and just as important a good choice of beer! Throughly enjoyed our meals and drinks, may well head back before our visit ends.

If you had a German grandmother this is how she cooked. Menu is like a fairy tale, portions are large, so make sure to choose your meal wisely because if you don't eat everything on your plate eyebrows will be raised.

Prices and portions are not that great. Worst service so far in Germany. I looked for this restaurant based on other TA reviewer comments and walked passed quite a few with better looking food and prices. It was not worth the effort.

Amazing food! Service and friendship was wonderful! I ended up spilling soup and Maria made me feel so accepted for my mistake. They food was traditional German deliciousness! Thank you to Maria for making me feel I like family!
