Came here for dinner, food ok but nothing special and overpriced. Staff indifferent to our enjoyment of the evening. Struggled to find somewhere inviting on our first night in Freiburg but this definitely isn't the place.

For 10 days I had tried to find sauerbraten on a menu and finally, voila! It was soooooo good! The potatoes were different and quite tasty, kind of like a potato meatball? Dinner for 2, with 2 entrees, coffees, beers & a piece of Black Forest Cake (required when in the area) came to 50 euro. A good value. Would... More

We had lunch here on a sunny day out in Freiburg in June. Busy restaurant with lots of people at tables facing the cathedral. It is the asparagus season: I had roast chicken breast with a sweet and sour sauce and asparagus salad; my wife had asparagus with parmesan and new potatoes. We drank a half-dry German rosé (big glasses).... More

When we placed the orders for our entrées, plus a beet salad for an hors-d'oeuvre, one would have thought that the server might have mentioned that my main dish also came with a beet salad as a side dish - but no; so I ended up with two identical salads. Meanwhile, the staff forgot to bring my companion’s entrée, so... More

With a Buzy Saturday lunch crowd and the server was so fast ( still friendly) and she seemed to get to everyone pretty quickly. The restaurant is in a great spot- right at the cathedral square and the atmosphere is typical Bavarian - even the waitress wore a dirndl. And they serve the local beer, Ganterbier, in 4 different styles!... More

If you would like to sample authentic black forest food with good fresh beer in a cozy setting then this place is a must! I enjoyed the venison (Hirsch rücken) not only was it the largest portion of venison ever served to me but is was cooked to perfection and was outstanding. Service was fluent in English, charming and made... More

During Carnival this year, our preferred restaurant (next door to Ganter) was closed and since we were hungry, we decided to give it a try. It took forever to get our food, very mediocre quality, all soaked in cooking oil - even the potato salad was submerged in oil. Because of carnival, there were a few "troupes" pilling up beer,... The place is well located, on the main square next to the Cathedral, but ... they rely to much on their location and do not care much about the quality of their food. My spouse ordered a meat pie (sorry but I missed registering the name of the dish), it was all broken up and obviously the kitchen tried "placing... More

classic good german food, heavy on pork and carbs. Well attended. Might be wonderful in winter, to flee the cold. In September it was humid i side.
