It all depends on what you want. I wanted old school classic Lyon eatery that could deliver on taste and service but not be stuffy or pompous. So the the first clue was I was on track was Abel was not in an tourist area. Second clue was it was old world exterior and interior. Third clue was a classic... More

The restaurant can be very busy. Book ahead. I go about every other month for a business dinner. If you like Tete de Veau, this is the spot. Other favorite menu dishes are rognons (kidneys), and the seasonal liver dishes. If you do not like heavy, meaty Lyonnais cuisine, this is not for you. Order with a Cote du Rhone... More

I once again trusted the "bouchon Lyonnais" label. Everything about this place was perfect, from the decor I studied on the walls as I awaited my freshly prepared meal, to the waiters bustling around. The cuisine was authentic and generous. I do have to warn you that it is very copious and worth waiting for, so eat light the meal... More

Sorry but after 39 days of travelling in Europe, this meal is rated 38. (Only Aura in Lisbon was worse.) The crayfish gratin was excessively salty and served with a side of enough bland rice for at least 2 people. The ratatouille was no more than a saucy, gloppy, zuchinni stew. Nowhere near the classic dish. The fois gras appetizer... More

This restaurant was just round the corner from the Hotel Vaubecour where we were staying and was so good that we visited twice in the week we were there. The food was very traditional and superb!!

Started with salad lyonnaise, executed to perfection. Egg cooked just right, small pieced of fried pork, olive oil, which when combined, made a delicious spontaneous dressing. Delicious!!! Plat principal crayfish gratin in a really yummy delicious sauce with rice on the side. Again, very simple and delicious. Great location, easy to find, and walking distance from the Centre Ville Lyon.... More

It was an honour to eat at one of the oldest bouchons in Lyon. The food was divine and and the service was friendly. The price was affordable and portions were generous. The food is rich, hence we decided to share the set menu consisting of one entrée, main and dessert, plus another main amongst two people. I heard that... More

Definitely one of the best bouchons in Lyon. Its speciality : the home-made quenelle. Hot saucisson, served with lentils, is also delicious. In an authentic setting with nice staff.

We had been led to believe that this is one of the best bouchons in Lyon. Certainly, the ambience is impressive - think old building, dimly lit interior, tables close to each other, much French chatter, almost a full house. However, we rate the meals we had as average. The entree salad was just dressed in oil and had little... More

We had Café Comptoir Abel recommended to us at top recommendation by our Lyon City Greeter, though she said we should reserve a table before setting out. Unfortunately the online reservation system in Lyon via Trip Advisor appears to be out of service, and I don't like having to phone. It's hard enough in English without having to do it... More
