Hard to know what to rate higher, the service or the food. The two young people who looked after us could not have been more polite or friendly. Both spoke excellent English which was a big help and both were extremely knowledgeable about the food being served. If you have seen the menu you will see that it is not extensive, but everything is cooked with skill and the portions were massive. We probably made a mistake by ordering a starter and the group of 6 each ordered something different. Nice touch with the complimentary pork scratchings, fresh bread and butter and a big jar of gherkins. I hade the Pate which was delicious, but I have to admit that the Chicken Liver cake would be an acquired taste. For mains I had the Beef Cheek in honey. You could have ate it with a spoon it was so soft. It was enough to feed two. The pork roll was similarly brilliant. Two huge pieces of what looked like belly pork in a delicious sauce. Again, easily enough for two. Sadly I had no room for dessert, but they kindly bought me a slice of praline pie to take home with me. A classy touch. This was a great Lyonnais experience and I would encourage everyone to eat there. Just make sure that you turn up hungry!

We were in Lyon for a weekend break, and having a drink in the old town, opposite this restaurant, we came to notice it, and how within a few minutes of opening on a Friday night, already there was a queue of people, being turned away! With its traditional décor, and open windows onto the outside, it intrigued us, so we walked over and were able to get a table for the following day, Saturday night, the last one because another couple had the same idea right after us and were turned down. Eagerly anticipating dinner, we arrived at the opening at 1900, and were able to get a table for 2 right by the open windows. By 1915, every single table at the restaurant was booked, and the place was really vibrant and buzzing with a great atmosphere, mainly tourists as would be expected in this part of Lyon. We ordered pork feet to start, which were eaten off the bone directly, fatty (as expected) but delicious, followed by the pork belly main, which was equally tasty, albeit we would have liked it to be a little more crispy, and we overdid with the starter. The rest of the menu also looked tasty, and this is a great place for lovers of meat and homecooked, big portion plates. The wine list is limited, & being 27 degrees, we opted for the a house carafe of white wine, which we enjoyed but would have preferred it to be chilled more rather than almost at room temp. The bill was very reasonable at ~EUR100 for 2 people, and we also enjoyed the décor of the restaurant and the friendly service. We would definitely return.

We were a party of 17 and 6 nationalities - we were made incredibly welcome in this lively very traditional Bouchon. The menu was amazing in terms of local regional food all of which was very well executed. The Tarte Praline was one of the best things I've ever eaten and the wonderful creme fraiche to go with it was served by ladle from a small milk churn

I booked this restaurant in May for June 12 & they confirmed me on May 11, 2023. When I arrived on June 12, I reconfirmed my booking for the evening by email. They replied me that they’re closed on Mon July 12 & they forgot to let me know !?!? So I asked to reschedule my booking for June 14 but they never replied. I don’t care if the food is delicious or not, this kind of service is not acceptable!!!!

For anyone genuinely wanting REAL Regional Cuisine - the short menu embodies the food of the region and it's excellent. The menu is meat heavy as you would expect with a focus on pates & terrines, sausage , lentils , black pudding, quenelles etc. The desserts are superb with an outstanding homemade Praline Tart served with the most amazing creme fraiche served from a small milk churn at the table. I took a party of 16 business colleagues and everyone had a night to remember,. The staff were so friendly helpful and had no issue speaking good english when it was needed . Wine and beer are local , good and reasonably priced

Recommended by our tour guide, this is a restaurant serving typical Lyonnaise food. Service was excellent and food was delicious.

Typical Lyonnaise cuisine which might not be attractive to tourists but only to locals. Three persons tried half of the menu and everything were just average for my taste. All simple dishes, with prices a bit expensive. On the door there is a sign saying that customers in a hurry are not welcome. Which is good to know since their kitchen staff are the slower ever. Being a bit slow is one thing, but this place is ridiculously slow. 10 minutes to get the order, another 20 to get the starters, another 75 minutes (!!!) to get the main course and another 20 for the deserts, plus the eating time. So if you have about three hours to spare, it’s the place to be...

This restaurant was recommended to me by a friend who said it served typical Lyonnaise food. I booked online weeks before and received confirmation minutes later. I arrived last Friday promptly at 7pm and by 7.45pm it was packed and they were turning away people so book to avoid disappointment. I skipped starters and ordered the main of beef cheeks in honey; the meat was brought to the table piping hot in a little pot and had mini new potatoes and carrots. I ate every morsel and struggled with my praline tart dessert which was brought to my table with a large milk urn of cream and told to help myself. A bottle of what appeared to be homemade digestif was also left and i was told to help myself too. It was very strong but very good. The staff spoke excellent English, lovely atmosphere but be aware that this is rustic, stick to your ribs, home cooking with plenty offal and large portions to be had. I'd return in a heartbeat. It was the highlight of my holiday.

Don’t miss this place. The food was amazing but seriously big portions- how could anyone eat all of that?! The service was so friendly and we were just amazed at every step. The starters were for the adventurous (various parts of pig) but the mains were wonderful. The honey beef cheeks were just divine. By the time we failed to finish our mains we were feeling rather defeated by the amount of food. But even if you think you can’t, try to make it to dessert. The praline tart was unexpected (pink and very sugary like almond paste) served with dollops of homemade soured cream! The whole meal was exquisite.

It’s funny how things come full circle; this traditional and unpretentious Lyonnais restaurant is now very trendy, and is a great place to eat out with friends. Luckily, we were able to reserve a table and despite hosting two services in the evening, the waiting staff were relaxed and friendly, helping to make the experience both enjoyable and memorable. Their English was great and they gave good recommendations for some of the guests who were less sure about some of the more unusual offal dishes. The portions were good, the waiter handed me a block of pate, telling me to cut as many slices as I wanted, for example. But most importantly, the food was great. I ordered some salami that had been cooked for five hours in wine and served with lentils, which was fantastic. All in all, excellent value for money, a great atmosphere, wonderful service and delicious food.

Nice atmosphere and good service. Definitely not for vegetarians or when you are on a diet. Their specialty is the less common pieces of pork. We had the pork feet, pate of the head, and pork belly all very tasty. Downside would be the vegetables which to me were overcooked. But than I didn't have the room to finish my plate.

This place was mentioned by every guide and host we encountered on our trip, and for good reason. We made a booking on a Saturday for the coming Monday evening, which is essential as they were fully booked even before opening for the night. As our table was for when they opened, we had a lovely table for two by the window which made for a very romantic setting. Our waiter was very charming and super friendly, and generally the service was quicker than we expected, having been told that proper bouchon style inevitably means very slow, and our three courses only took just over two hours, with most of this taken up by us being slow to finish after having dessert. The starters were OK, and while tasty enough were far too big and rich for me - the pate de tete and the gateau de foie volaille (which was massive). The main courses however were to die for and worth any amount of journey you need to make - beef cheeks in honey and sabadot aux lentilles. To finish we had a lemon sorbet, followed by a complimentary digestif. In total it came to 58 euros including a glass of wine, which was quite affordable given the quality and amount of food compared to other local experiences. I would definitely recommend here for anyone looking for a proper bouchon meal, or even just to have those main courses.
