The restaurant is rather tiny, and not for the regular squeamish anglo-saxon. The pride of Lyon is on sending the best portions of beef and pork to Paris, and from the remainders, i.e. noses, tripe, knees etc to make fantastic food that is the pride of town. So if you are not a fillet-steak only character, run (after making sure... More

Was recommended by a colleague to visit this small eclectic restaurant... service was great and all the food was outstanding... Local favorites from Head Cheese, Lamb feet, to the deserts were prepared as if we're cooked at home by your grandmother!!!!!

Our apartment was nearby so I walked in the previous afternoon to reserve for lunch the following day. Small and close quarters, staff friendly and helpful, and food exceptional and nicely priced. All inside tables filled with locals shortly after opening. The day's special was several hearty slices of a thick local sausage served with a Lyonnaise potato dish. Great... More

Went here following reading reviews on trip advisor whilst in Lyon for Euro 2016. We arrived at 7pm without a booking and were shown to a table. We heard however that they were fully booked for later. Food was excellent the onglet of beef with the cheese sauce was exceptional. Cheese course was stunning and we had to share a... More

Brilliant restaurant serving local cuisine. Very popular, so you need to book in advance. Good choice of menus and good atmosphere

Tiny little place with tables close together. We arrived at the perfect time, it seemed, as many tried to get in just after us and the place was crowded when we left! First waiter didn't seem to want to recommend anything to us, but luckily he was replaced with another (and much friendlier!) waiter who was a delight. The ambiance... More

Good place to try traditional Bouchon food but be prepared for fairly heavy hearty food that is not fine dinning. After sharing a substantial salad and a meat assortment for starters we struggled through a beef steak and a sausage dish for mains. We were quite bloated after these dishes and passed on the desserts. The service was fine and... More

I'm so glad I came back to Mere Jean, which was recommended to me by a French colleague, after it was too full one day at lunch. The next day the service was so warm and welcoming, and the food was INCREDIBLE. I had the lunch special with the lentil salad with shallots (which was my favorite part...until the Lyon... More

Lots of traditional recipes of the Lyon's area: from the cervelle of Canut to the St-Marcellin with veal kidneys well cooked, to drink with a white Viré-Clessé or a Fleurie in a familial atmosphere
