This was our first visit. The restaurant is welcoming, with several staff members receiving guests and immediate attention paid (one suggestion for improvement, see below)
Lay out is nice with several rooms, creating an intimate atmosphere even when not completely booked.
The service is friendly, knowledgeable and polite but not too formal. The sommelier made a real effort to understand our preferences before advising on a wine, and then recommended one that we really liked and was priced reasonably to boot. Excellent service!
The menu degustation was top notch cooking, with a lot of variation, interesting combinations of tastes, served at just the right pace. The dessert in particular was a rare explosion of tastes, even the tiny merengues were very tasty rather than just sweet decoration. Really an experience, we had a great evening. Not cheap, but definitely worth the money.
One suggestion: it was a cold evening so we came in with heavy coats, caps and gloves, and struggled a bit to get out of our gear whilst the staff looked on rather than helping by taking the separate items off our hands right away. A bit of help would have made the service even better.
Nevertheless: highly recommended!

This is exactly what we expected from a two stars Michelin restaurant. Most of the dishes were very good, with nothing that I wouldn't try again.
The standouts were the Spider crab and Sea crab, the White asparagus and morels and the Pike mousse with crayfish. I could eat everyday the white asparagus and morels; it's the type of dish where you want to lick the plate afterwards.
The value for money is also very good for a 2 stars restaurant, with a set menu with five dishes coming in at 145 EUR. Add to this the amuse bouche, the bread and butter, the pre-dessert and the petit fours and you'll be leaving more than satisfied.

We were traveling through France in May 2019 doing research for our upcoming book, "Flavour with Benefits: France".
The founder of this restaurant, Eugénie Brazier, is perhaps the most celebrated of "Les Mères Lyonnaises" (The Mothers of Lyon) who helped to create the foundation of modern French cuisine. She trained many chefs including Paul Bocuse.
The current owner and head Chef, Mathieu Viannay – winner of the Meilleur Ouvrier de France award, has kept up the insistence on quality and pleasure. We chose a traditional menu and were not disappointed. The service was attentive and the food as expected was delicious.
Congratulations to the Chef et son Équipe!

We went in family of 6. We had various dishes such sole fish, lobster & set menu,
The sole was sadly disappointing. Instead of serving as fillet, they cut the fish into small finger size pieces & simply pan fried & served with a butter sauce. Sole being a rich fish by itself, the butter sauce add to the richness without improving the palette.
The lobster was ordinary & the set menu has no wow factor.
Before the main, they served us foie gras with bread which was just taste like commercially bought foie gras instead of kitchen made.
We went with excitement & left with great disappointment. We will not return for sure.

While the food was good (but not the best meal of a recent trip to France), the service here was really disappointing. We arrived a little early, at 7:30, for our 7:45 dinner reservation and found the door locked. After walking around the neighborhood for 15 minutes, we returned to the restaurant and were told to come back in 5 minutes. Seriously. No suggestion that we come in (despite the fact it was now drizzling outside) to have a drink or simply wait. When we came back 10 minutes later (after circling the block) we were swiftly shown to our table but no one offered to take our dripping umbrellas or rain coats. When we asked, we were told it was impossible because of Covid!? Okay. Would it not have been possible to offer an extra chair or stool that we could put our things on? Instead we had to drop them on the floor. Not what we expected from such a well known and respected restaurant.

This is an institution and it specialises in up market bouchon Lyonnais style of food. You will walk away feeling hungry and on the contrary, you may feel that you have been rather well fed - both in terms of quality and quantity.
The staff were excellent and the service was flawless. The food from starters to deserts were consistently thoughtful and they were all based on traditional dishes but with modern twists. Certainly they were tasty, flavoursome and well presented. IT was not perfect as we found some dishes were too fussy and had simply too much cream.
So is it a 2 star? Well, it depends on taste in food. If you like traditional food and the best that Lyon has to offer, the answer is yes. If your style is for lighter styled food, simpler service and with a touch of creativity then I suspect it may not be your cup of tea.
We enjoyed and would recommend it but make sure it is the right kind of food for you.

We dined in this historic restaurant. The decor is a little cold, the food is of high quality and creative, but the whole is decent without more. The spider crab, crab and caviar is fragrant, but some of us had a really fridge cold dish. The roasted scallops, porridge and turnip is creative and successful, as are the revisited classics: artichoke and foie gras or pike bread with crayfish are tasty, but one guest had an "artichoke" consisting entirely of tasteless artichoke tails, and at least 3 dishes are accompanied by cream and/or butter sauce, the gambas with sea urchins would be perfect if the sea urchins had taste. The lobster with sweetbreads is overcooked and therefore elastic. The desserts are refreshing and pleasant. Service is decent but rather impersonal, and glasses of wine are refilled quickly as soon as they're opened to encourage consumption. Wine list among the most expensive in the restaurant business.

I chose the "Formule du dejeuner" at a price of EUR 95.00 and I am glad I did not go for the 5 or 7 course menu because although the portions were small, there was more than enough. I was given a "amuse-bouche" containing meat but on telling the waitress I did not eat meat (I am pescatarian), she said no problem and came back later with a vegetarian one.
I ordered a glass of white wine which was soft and balanced. My chosen starter was Saint-Jacques rotie, porridge, navet boule d'or. As a main I had "daurade royale" and souffle noix de coco as dessert. Everything was superb. The bread was delicious and came with a soft butter and a scrumptious olive oil.
This was an experience I would like to repeat, one day. The service was excellent.

After a three week trip through the south of France and many Michelin star restaurants, we entered La Mere Brazier with great expectation, but left very disappointed. Having just had a great meal and experience at Paul Bocuse, which has lost a star to now be only 2 stars, but should be 3 stars, we thought this new comer with such hype and 2 stars would be a great way to end our culinary trip. While we received many ‘Bonsoir’s’ when entering the restaurant, I would say the welcome ended there. We were quickly seated in a room with only Americans, which to me was no coincidence, although I have no objections to speaking with my fellow Americans. However, being segregated set the tone of the indifference and inattentive service. Upon seating, a large slab of pâté was placed on the table, which was nothing special and would have been very filling if we consumed it all. Better to provide a taste to whet the appetite than slap down a large piece. After the immediate service of the pate, the service ended for quite some time and without a request for aperitif, except water. After finally ordering two kir royals, they were served with the lowest level of Moët that was so effervescent and acidic that I had to call the waiter to replace it with something more palatable. He returned with Henriot 2008, that was much better. The order was still not taken, but ultimately it was and dinner proceeded in a very matter of fact manner with zero enthusiasm. With the exception of the Nantua sauce dish, the food was nicely presented, but underwhelming, especially the pike, which was a bland roll of white fish.
During the three hour dinner, the waiter came once to clean the table and never inquired about anything.
In sum, the service was lacking in charm and in attentiveness, the food underwhelming, so much so that it was hard to appreciate the 2 star Michelin recognition, especially after the spectacular service and dinner at Paul Bocuse with 2 stars as well. Hopefully, La Mere will take note and improve to. really deserve the 2 stars.

Dear Ron P,
First of all, thank you very much for taking time to share your impressions on TripAdvisor .
We are sorry however to hear that you were disappointed by our service and food.
We remember very well that you declined your aperitif at the beginning. Later you changed your mind.
Regarding "segregated", we think that is not the good term appropriate.
Mere Brazier restaurant is proud to welcome all over the year, people from everywhere.
We don't have any special room for foreign people or specially American guests
We instill every day to all of our team members the sense of availability, kindness and helpfulness, and we sincerely regret that you have not felt those values which are the hallmark of our house.
We look forward to your next visit and shall do our best to meet your expectations.
Best Regards,

Top notch culinary experience in Lyon. Meets the expectations. Established restaurant with a centennial history, which lives up to the the hype.
Seattle in for a shorter lunch menu, or go for the standards set menus in offer. Highly recommend going with the wine pairing options. Dishes are delicious across the board. Hard to point to favorites. The artichoke and duck terrine dishes dating from 1921 stood out. The Saint Jacques as well. The soufflé desert was exceptional.
The Interior is warm and inviting. The restaurant is in fact a well-run factory. Quite busy with staff constantly on the move, but you are left feeling comfortable and not rushed. This is a testament to the exceptional service, provided by the many specialized staff who will be taking care of you. A truly remarkable team from the moment we entered, till departure. Compliments.
Prices are high but comparable with other Michelin star restaurants. The standard Eugenie menu is 255 euro per person, with wine pairing. Highly recommended.

First of the ambient was not good lighting was to bright and was no music in 1 floor room. All courses were good but no wow factors. Service many times forget to fill up the water( just have no eyes for it) after told one of the service guy we received no apology but attitude. We have been more than hundred Michelin restaurants worldwide this by far the worth. After discussion we just took out the gratuity! Really not deserve 2 stars now I know why this it the only Michelin restaurant available on that date no surprise! Feel bad for the founder coz this is basically very old heritage restaurant in town more than 100 years old.

We thank you for your visit and your feedback.
We remember very well your diner time and the discussion with one of our managers.
He did apologize sincerely about the situation and the water’s service.
Otherwise, we are all proud to work in la Mère Brazier, and we do all our best to give full service to our guests, in the food and service areas.
Best regards,

Start by reading the book “Dirt” by Bill Buford. Next, make a reservation at La Mere Brazier and anticipate the delight. Finally, arrive for a truly pleasurable and delicious experience. Ours lasted 3 hours during which we were treated with kindness and professionalism throughout 3 courses and even more amuse-bouches! We could not have been more welcomed. Thank you to the entire staff of La Mere Brazier.

Our son gave us a Eugenie Brazier menu for two. When we arrived, the menu was on the table, which saves time and we were able to take it to the end of the meal, much appreciated attention. In appetizers, a slice of crust pie with foie gras and tartar gambas, it starts well!
Without detailing the whole 5-course meal, special mention to mushroom/shell tartlet more than delicious as well as crispy pike bread with a bite of smoked eel accompanied by a fantastic sailor sauce. As for sweetbread and its pimprenelle juice, a killing just like the pigeon with perfect cooking. In short, a dream meal with perfect service. A sommelier quite young but very familiar with her profession and who advised perfectly the wine needed without adding more; several waiters served us but all knew what they had to do and were always there when we needed it without being invasive. I liked the reflection of one of them when he came to hide the stains that I had made on the beautiful white tablecloth by a kind of white table runner "we will say that nothing happened" he said with a smile...that's the class!
In short, everything was perfect, I have only one regret that unfortunately concerns all gourmet restaurants, that is the price of wines. These restaurants pull the prices on the menu and the menus and "let loose" on the wines; being a lover of (very) good wines, I can never choose the wine I want to accompany these superb dishes. The restaurateurs tell me that it is the effect of the stock that is heavy in the cash, I can understand for the old vintages but not for bottles that are in the cellar recently and sell 900 a wine that we paid 200 three years before, it stings a bit!
It's sad for me but as I said, all the great restaurants do the same so I maintain: perfect meal, exceptional dishes, top service, it deserves 20/20.

Fantastic! Mere Brazier is for sure worthy of the Michelin stars. Food is perfect, and service is wonderful and attentive. It baffles me that some people leave a negative review, as everything was just perfect as expected.
Every bite was a discovery, we can’t wait to go back and discover more of the culinary delights.
Thanks to the staff for making this evening special, we hope to be back soon.

Beautifully prepared chicken. Done perfectly; moist and not dry. Classic preparation was heavy. A bit much with other courses. Contemporary preparation was more flavorful and lighter. Attentive and friendly staff. Sommelier steered us to well paired wines at a decent price point. The dining room was quite warm and stuffy. More air conditioning would have made it more comfortable. Overall, great meal and experience.
