We have been coming to Saint Remy for practically 30 years. Dining has been ok but nearly always the comment was “ nice, but could have stayed at home”. Four years ago we visited the Hotel de Tourrel ( actually we wormed our way in from the excellent wine shop annexed). We were greeted by the owner, a super professional and affable German who had fallen in love with the area and with his architect wife had created this jewel boutique hotel bang in the centre of the small town which had been hostage to lavender bags and soaps for several years. It may be coincidental but since their arrival all shops in Saint Remy seem to have been given a quality boost. Last tuesday we were on the waiting list for a table on their roof terrace, where a set menu is served in summer. We received a prompt call and off we went! I must admit I am not mad on set menus and am not much of a dessert eater but the young Michelin starred chef put together a dinner that was light, inventive, creative and excellent. The rooftop terrace is a joy: The unexpected view on the Alpilles, a light wind cooled the air, the swallows created patterns in the sky, the sun went down, the stars came up and all was perfection.
The staff is impeccable. The (again) young maitre D, super professional, has impeccable English and a discerning taste and character, to be able to advise.
All in all a great experience. We were there on holiday, but have a travel business. Often in our beloved France, in “ high end establishments” one is subjected to a certain aloofness and haughtiness which can be, at the least, off putting. The atmosphere at Tourrel is relaxing, and yet professional. The client is cuddled and respected, not treated as though at school! Fabulous. Highly recommendable.

I don't want to go into too much detail here, but the evening on the roof terrace and the cooking skills of the young chef, Jérémy Scalia, were an absolutely perfect combination. No exotic combinations, but a clear line with explosions of taste.
A dream menu. Really absolutely great. He explained to each guest in detail the individual courses that he personally served together with the hotel manager Olivier.
Wonderfully discreet background music rounded off the package with the perfect wine to accompany the menu! In my eyes a perfect evening.
I thought about adding photos, but I think that every guest should go there open-minded and be surprised.
we should appreciate such owner-operated small hotels more. Sustainability is the key word here for the whole concept.
WE LOVED IT.

Wow, what an amazing experience. We ate here for dinner last week and it was absolutely amazing. The food, the service, everything was amazing. We brought our daughters (aged 10 and 12) and the chef very kindly offered them a simpler form of the menu, but both girls wanted to try the full degustation menu. My eldest finished every course, they both loved the dishes. We’ve eaten in Michelin star restaurants before and sometimes they can be too over the top, where here each dish was not over complicated in the flavours on the plate, while still obviously so much work gone in to creating each dish. An amazing dining experience.

We had an absolutely perfect evening celebrating with friends at the Rooftop Restaurant.
The views were wonderful. The staff were charming. The unique low tables and chairs were comfortable. And the wine and food were just... WOW!
From the amuse bouches to the mignardises, every mouthful of the set menu was simply delicious and beautifully cooked and presented. We were delighted when the young chef came to serve us the last couple of dishes herself and we could thank her in person.
I wouldn't hesitate to return if I visit this beautiful town again.

The menu at the Restaurant de Tourrel was plant and fish based with an optional meat course (and a fish substitute if requested). The restaurant looks somewhat non descript from the outside. It has an elegant interior, possibly somewhat lacking in warmth. The restaurant seats perhaps no more than 18. There was some artwork on the walls, a series of drawings or prints that I could not really make out. From pictures I have seen I believe this may change and a larger focus piece or pieces would add to the atmosphere. On the night we visited we appeared to be the only guests not from the USA.
With the exception of the dessert course, some new season cherries with a savoury almond pesto, which was not to our taste, we thoroughly enjoyed all the dishes. All the dishes were well explained (in perfect English). We were informed all reductions were vegetable or fish based. I thought this led to a delicacy in flavour without any loss of intensity a more traditional reduction might bring. I felt all the dishes contrasted well. The main fish course was tuna. I would have preferred a white fish but it was delicious all the same. There was also an asparagus dish, a raw mackerel dish, a mantis shrimp dish (a house speciality) and a lamb dish (meat dish an option). Yes, as you can see, all contrasting supremely well. The meat substitute was bream (again an optional dish). Only just cooked, I would say. But worked well as a contrast to the tuna. These were the main dishes, all of expected size, neither big nor small. Also served were some treats before and after, including sea snail, not really a snail, a first for me, as was the Mediterranean shrimp (excellent). An extra cheese course was an option we did not take.
Why only 4 stars? Service was generally very good with Chef himself serving most of the courses together with the head waiter, but there was an oversight towards the end of the meal. My wine glass was left empty on one occasion and we were left with at least a glassful in the bottle at the end of the meal which was then quickly poured as coffee was served (note the wine, and water we ordered, were kept on a separate table and both were poured at all times by the waiting staff). So, only about £25 worth left unconsumed. Not really acceptable in a restaurant of this calibre. From that estimate you can gauge the price of a bottle, and one at the lower end of the list too. An unfortunate note to finish.

Very nice evening at Restaurant De Tourrel. The menu was driven by local ingredients and the preparations were very interesting and tasty variations of classic ingredients. The chef obviously puts a lot of thought into his dishes. The tasting menu included a squid stew, a mushroom dish (wow!), perfectly prepared lamb, and melt in your mouth red mullet. The cheese offering was optional, but do get it. They source their cheese from a particular source and it is worth the calories to try it. And the wine list is deep, interesting and very fairly priced—something you almost never see in restaurants anymore.
The service was friendly but professional, creating a nice setting but not one where, as is sometimes the case in Michelin starred places, you felt like you had to whisper or couldn’t have fun. It was a casual, elegant and fun night. Our dinner was in the hotel’s private kitchen, which is not the usual setting, but the ordinary dining room is also very welcoming.
We dined earlier in the week at a nearby Michelin 3 star place and the food, atmosphere and service at Restaurant De Tourrel was, to our taste and experience, just a better experience in every aspect.

The tasting menu "l'Essence" is available in 7 sessions and allows to discover the full extent of the know-how of chef Romain Lorenzon, admittedly recently at the controllers of the Michelin-starred restaurant of Tourrel, but with an already impressive CV. Menu inspired by the seasons and the harvest of small regional producers with a special mention for the Mediterranean Galley without minimizing the quality of the other dishes, quite the contrary.
The room is contemporary, intimate and is furnished with noble furniture including superb marble tables.
The quality of service, provided in part by the chef himself, and the sommelier - who masters his subject- only enhances the quality of the dishes served. Superb wine list with an impressive number of references. Beautiful culinary experience.

We have been guests at the Restaurant de Tourrel several times, but this was our first evening with the new chef Romain Lorenzon. It was always a wonderful experience to spend an evening here before, but this time it was amazing! The service was extremely attentive as always, the ambience was slightly different, still very stylish, but a little more relaxed, and the menu was a revelation! All of the products are local, seasonal, and the chef worked his magic. What you have on your plate is not artificial, but the taste is very complex. It was also wonderful that he himself was often at the table and explained his composition. Last but not least, the wines were sensational. All in all, an experience that we would happily repeat. Many thanks to the entire team!

We eat in many Michelin starred restaurants and found Tourrel to be exceptional. We ordered the full menu including the langoustine. The wine list is great and reasonable for what’s offered.
The service was attentive without being intrusive. All in all a great experience.

From the atmosphere to the service, from the wines to the menu - one highlight followed the other! We were particularly impressed by the asparagus, the lamb and the dessert, which offered a taste experience that is rarely found. Each dish was presented outstandingly and was exceptionally delicious. An unforgettable evening that we would happily repeat!

“At the 'Le Tourrel' restaurant in San Remy, Provençal culinary art is reinvented. Here, new flavors and creative dishes come together in a ballet of colors and tastes. Each course is a tribute to tradition, interpreted with modern audacity. A sensorial journey that leaves its mark on the palate and the heart.”

Rooftop dinner on August 8: exceptional table.
The superb view of the city and church rooftops with the bonus sunset!
Then the decor with this modern and comfortable chic furniture and these small olive trees between each table!
Finally the fair and inviting service and finally the dinner with unique menu that delighted our taste buds end to end.
The fish is superbly honored in plates as beautiful as delicious! The dessert around strawberry did not have to blush...!
A timeless moment that filled us like very rarely!

Really lovely meal in beautiful surrounding on the rooftop terrace of this boutique hotel. No choice of menu on the rooftop, but the set, tasting menu was absolutely delicious. Fish and vegetable based, with great use of Provençal flavours. Relaxed, unstuffy atmosphere. Will definitely go again!

Very good restaurant in St-Rémy de Provence. We discovered it while walking through the streets of the city.
The unique menu delighted us from start to finish. We realize that the kitchen works with beautiful, fresh products. Magnificent wine list (what's more, affordable). The staff is very pleasant and smiling. Thank you for this moment!

Fabulous evening on the roof terrace of this hotel. Views of Les Alpilles in one direction and the Luberon in another. Plus the church and rooftops. Menu degustation is currently all that is on offer but it is fantastic. Small number of covers as the restaurant downstairs is closed due to COVID. The service and cooking were both faultless. Not cheap but a real treat. Enjoy.
