We are a family with a tradition of couscous at home using lovingly cooked vegetables and delicious spiced vegetable broth, chickpeas, fresh spices and have gone to couscous places in Paris and Montreal, Londonand have always had a great meal both of vegan and meat...based couscous. The food here was truly mediocre with the vegan couscous in a restaurant which says it is vegan and vegetarian friendly consisting of steamed vegetables and no broth just olive oil. Monsieur le hôte brought a glass of red wine which was so bad and turned as to be undrinkable. At least he took it back when told so. After the meal was done when we asked for the bill he tried to get us to buy more wine or dessert. Would absolutely never go again. Maybe it was great when founded in 1921, but it is downright awful now truly dégueulasse.More

With our group of over 60 participants we completely absorbed this wonderful authentic place. Not only the wonderful couscous is a culinary delight. Mustapha the owner and head of the hall is unique. Watching him in action is a spectacle. Thank you Mustapha, thank you...Team La Fémina. A perfect evening.More

Really liked the food there, mostly non vegetarian options but one veg option too. Beautiful ambience and friendly staff.

We took the kids here on our last night in Marseille having seen the restaurant in Anthony Bourdain’s Parts Unknown. While the food was nice I found the prices extremely high. 5 euro for a small beer, almost 9 euro for soup, and just short...of 20 euro for the non veggie couscous dishes. 1 skewer of lamb or beef included for your 20 euro! Unsurprisingly there were no North African people in the restaurant. I assume they were round the corner at restaurant Palmier enjoying the same food for 8 euro per main course! Service was friendly but slow and a bit inattentive. Our waiter kept disappearing to answer the phone as we were trying to order.More

Six of us had lunch in this wonderful Algerian couscous restaurant. Yes, the decor is a little kitschy, but the vegetarian coucous we all ordered was absolutely delicious containing beans and vegetables in a rich sauce spiced with cumin. The smoky harissa served as a...condiment was not essentially hot; it just gave another layer of flavor to the meal. I would suggest ordering the barley coucous for its wonderful texture as it is unavailability in most couscous restaurants.More

A bit of kitsch, but sincere service and friendly, welcoming atmosphere. The food is good, a bit expensive compared to other possibilities in the area, but the flavors are as they should be: savory, rich broth, traditional spice combinations, and service with a flourish. Clientele...is comfortable and familiar, lots of repeat customers. Portions are generous, but no taking leftovers with you if you can’t finish it all. Worth a try if you have the money (about 18-25 euros per person, more or less, not including wine).More

This is a great example of a tourist trap which has been created and re-purposed with the aim of attracting tourists and their money. You go with the aim of tasting the so called exotic North African- Algerian food while on a trip to Marseille....Your visit will be a total failure if you know a little bit about the Algerian and North African food. Shortly, stay away from here if you respect yourself. Except their names the food has nothing to do with Algeria or North Africa. Actually that does not matter for tourist who are ready to throw their money to any touristic trap. I don’t blame this place for showing no respect to their customers and serving terrible food for extraordinary prices. Go taste it and don’t forget to share it on Instagram. That's all that matters! Right?More

Femina is a Tunisian restaurant serving couscous and other North African delicacies right on the edge of the Noallie market in Marseille. It’s a fun place with lots of atmosphere and incredible decorations on the wall. The waiters are lively and entertaining and it’s a...great place to eat. I had the lamb couscous, and my wife had a very nice salad. I know what real couscous should be because I eat lots at home (Libyan style), and I really enjoyed the one I had at Femina, which, we were told is Tunisian style.More

The best couscous I’ve ever tasted! I had the barley semolina one. It’s served with plenty of sauce & vegetables, sides of hot peppers, and your choice of meat, chicken or merguez sausages.

I liked the service I received. I couldn't decide what to eat, what with the menu being in French and the waiter knowing limited English words, the waiter helpfully brought out two dishes containing semolina couscous and barley couscous to show me what each looks...like. That settled it and I ordered the spit-roasted lamb couscous. The spit-roasted lamb did not appear quite as roasted as I had expected it to be, but it was absolutely mouth-wateringly yummy and tender to the bite. The meal came with a pot of some kind of broth made with chickpeas, carrots and other vegetables, which I could not get enough of. In fact, the restaurant might consider serving this as a dish on its own.More
