Maybe don't sit at the back table, perfumed by the nearby toilet - "I know, French plumping, an old building" the waiter cheerfully reassured. Food, some good. The lamb had once been a fine piece of meat, now cooked through and dry, no sauce, but tasty grilled courgettes. And maybe don't go if you're one of the world's many who... More

You may feel that there are two types of restaurant in Marseilles, the ones who see tourists as being good, primarily for the money they bring in, and the ones who delight in serving all customers with a cuisine of which they are proud. Le Charles Livon is in the latter category. Being a little bit away from the main... More

Superb. I had the stunning crab cappuccino, perfectly cooked delicious beef fillet and incredible cheeses. Not often I am wowed by a meal but this place was amazing. Great little place, cosy and friendly with a very knowledgeable waiter. Can't wait to go back when next on holiday in Marseille. Very handy for some of the hotels-Sofitel, New Hotel and... More

I reserved for a Sunday night. Not needed, very quiet small dinner. Excellent fish tartare - espadon! Good roast lamb with great vegetables. Fair apricot desert. All in all a delicious, filling, simple meal and menu. Terrific service.

We ate here on a Sunday night (difficult in France) while staying at the Hotel at Le Corbusier's Unite building. It meant a taxi across town but well worth it. We would never have found this place without a recommendation but it was fabulous tempting food. Limited menu but that meant everything was lovely.

Thankfully the Sofitel's Michelin* was unavailable and we spotted this interesting little restaurant nearby. Absolutely superb food and wine and very inventive menu. l'escargot followed by hake and couscous - prepared to perfection with delicuous wines of the region. Congratulations! It has only 25 covers so book ahead

I had the chef's daily tasting menu and must say this is one of the finest meals I have had for 32 euros Ingredients presentation and flavours all top notch Decor is excellent service just right One small improvement for ambience would be to remove the scratch radio music and go with a better sound system but as I mentioned... This small restaurant serves inspired cuisine, inventive but not precious. Highly recommended. Very friendly and expert service, too.

The food was unquestionably good, but for the money, I wanted to be blown away. I opted for the degustation menu at €51 per person. Presentation was interesting, but sadly every course had a little fault. Simple things like, one too many ingredients, so that the mouth was left puzzled rather than entertained. Or, with the lobster ravioli, pasta that... More
