We were with my girlfriend in Marseille and we had limited budget. We were looking for some place to eat during our walking. Our local host proposed to visit this place and it was wonderful. Simple menu with really low price(compared to Marseille). Really huge...portions. We ordered two Saf-Saf and we were full when ate half of a dish. Some couse-couse, fries and salad with 2 types of meat. Plus we got a snack with bread and sauce, olives and a water for free. And a Tea after. We spent only 19€ and we enjoyed every euro we spent here. Totally recommend it.More

I wanted to try an off the beaten path restaurant that served couscous. There are many on the tour maps, but this was a gem i found in a side street walking from the train station to old port. Beware, that this restaurant only takes...cash. It was filled with locals and gave me a good. I ordered a couscous special that came with a meat ball, merguez sausages and skewered meat. The dish tasted good. They served great mint tea and service was very good. It is more of a divey seating, but the prices were very reasonable, why go to a more expensive with better furnishing, if the food is what you are really after.More

We really enjoyed our meal. Good sized meals, friendly service, delicious complementary fresh baguette with harissa. Pleasant evening.

It was 2012 since the last time I dined here. There was a time I always recommended them to friends and acquaintances. Certainly the portions were quite substantial, the price on the menu was decent. I went there umpteenth times without counting, until one day,...I found the sea bream I ordered ( grilled ) totally raw inside and obviously came out from the freezer without being defrosted and cooked properly. Since then, I never came back again. I forgot all about them these past 5 years and frequent those restaurants in Vieux Port which mainly cater for tourist and the quality have left a lot to be desired. I passed by Saf Saf today and why not, gave them another chance, it's been 5 years. I saw not much change, the decoration, the tables, the television, all were the same except the staff. It could have been a change of ownership. The menu was the same except there was one more kind of fish--- sea bass. I didn't dare to order that but instead having a chopped pepper and tuna salad, brick of prawn, vegetable and chicken couscous. I found the food in average quality except the sauce for bread was overly salty. The staff were not very attentive though. Perhaps it's a football match night. They kept staring at the telly without noticing customers were beckoning for something. One of them even sitting behind me in a table and chatted with his friends. When I tried to look at him to catch his attention, he either ignored me or pretended not to notice. Another thing worth mentioning is that the traditional chicken couscous is a dish cooked with chicken and vegetable in sauce, served with couscous. However, in this restaurant, they present everyone who orders couscous with a big bowl of couscous topped up with vegetable, then you will get a chicken leg on another plate, or lamb if you order lamb couscous. This quite clearly is the indolence of the labour force. Not need to cook many pots of vegetable with different kind of meat but just a big pot and then serve a plate of meat on the side. Not quite authentic in my view. The whole meal cost us 23€ which I anticipated. I wouldn't gape in wonder as I know they probably just walk across the road to purchase their supply from the notorious but inexpensive Noailles market.More

We visited here the first night of our trip and were glad to find a restaurant within walking distance. Although it was Ramadan and not quite sunset the staff were quite welcoming ( though it certainly helps to speak a bit of French ). I...wouldn't say the menu was extensive, but certainly the couscous was very tasty. We went back a couple of times and each time we enjoyed the food.More

Went there today, had the fish of the day with Couscous, food was very good, service was pretty slow, since it was their lunch rush. Great place for an inexpensive meal in marseille.

OK to beging with there is a wide range of couscous restaurants in Marseille in this price bracket - and it is the small things that separate them. In this case what marks Saf Saf out from the rest is the smokeyness in the harissa...which I really liked on the roast (mechoui) lamb should that I had with the cous cous. Friendly service, nice located and not so busy that it is mental - nice gaps between the tables and just all over a good vibe. For 7-8 euros don't hesitate just go for it. NB lot of locals getting take away which is a good sign!More

I love couscous so was super excited when a French friend told me that this was his favorite place in Marseille. Hmmmm. I thought it was just ok. Ordered the Royale (beef, pork, chicken, merquez, lamb) to share with daughter. The meat was lacking flavor...and the merquez was rather dry. We also got a tuna "block" - basically a fried crepe with tuna and a fried egg inside. Meh. Not sure I would recommend.More

During my stay In Marseille I have dined in a few restaurants that was the worst of them. For the plus the price and size of the dishes I paid only about 10 euro for a 3 part meal but to be honest I would...prefer to paid more and get a taster meal.More
