I have read reviews of this bar in which the authors complain about the service. Most visitors do not understand that the bar is NOT a commercial establishment; rather, it is a working man's bar that is operated on a subscription basis. Annual membership is...five Euros, and the cheap drinks for members are subsidized by the annual dues. The bar was founded in 1912 and served as the meeting place for the French resistance during World War II. The members let you come to their local club to have a drink, but the bar is usually filled with local people at night because it is a social institution, not a business. All the visitors tend to sit outside on the balcony to enjoy the beautiful view of the Luberon valley. If you order a drink at the bar and point in the direction of the balcony and say, " S'il vous plaît" (please), the bartender will bring the drink to your table. We spent two twilights here enjoying the sunset. We recommend it highly!More

little overlooked ,non evasive cafe/bar is a gem in the fact coffee was best in Gordes. The manager a sweetie with a wicked sense of humour. The real France, with history galore of the building. It also has a secret, a beautiful vista at the back...of cafe which is not widely advertised. A must .More

This is a very simple bar/cafe with a tiny terrace with an UNBEATABLE VIEW. Go in for a cold drink or aperitif. Order from the jolly fellow at the bar then grab your table on the terrace. He’ll bring the drinks to you. Then sit...there. That’s all. It’s not the Ritz Carlton but I could sit there all day to enjoy the view and the people.More

A simple coffe shop with an amazing terrace. Drink something, no doubts!!! Very near from the center of the town.

Ideal place to have an authentic french coffee in an otherwise not so authentic village. Nice little terras with a view on the Luberon.

Small coffee bar frequented mainly by locals. Few simple, bare tables. Order at the bar and take to a table or drink standing up. Select from basket of croissants on bar but don't expect to be given a plate. Service is non-existent so if you...just want a quick coffee and don't care about ambience, this may do.More

I was told that the Cercle establishments originated soon after the French revolution, as a non-profit entity serving beverages at very reasonable prices: coffee, beer, wine, pastis and other alcoholic beverages are very cheap here, and they have an outside balcony with a million-dollar view!...Or sit inside if it is windy, your choice. Order at the bar, pay when you leave. Bring in your food to eat, although small snacks are available here. Other cities have Cercles, too, maybe without the view, but all with great local color!More

If you can get one of the 4 tables on the terrace - amazing view south-west - you have to march through a room of locals to actually see the terrace - well worth a visit

We loved the ambience of a local cafe. We had friendly service and good coffee/drinks. If the weather allows sit on balcony.

Yes, there are lovely views from this cafe but you have to pay a very high price for it. The drinks are hugely expensive. The guy making them was brusk bordering on rude. I would suggest walking down to the free benches where the views...are even better.More
