I though the restaurant was good for both service, food and location. The "Red Donkey" has a story where the server enlightened us, my wife insisted..not me. Here are two things you must try at the restaurant: The Fish (which was delicious) and the melon soup. the view over the port is great in summer, I have no complaints about... More

Stay clear! Completely overpriced, zero service, including super-long waiting times that no one apologized for even when we told them and very average food (dry bread and tiny portions). Very disappointing!

So many things wrong with this restaurant, service first of all: two and a half hours to serve main course and cheese. Perhaps the restaurant was not fully staffed on a Sunday evening, but given the paucity of restaurants in Nice open at this time I would expect some effort to be made. Food: the amuse-bouches were not amusing; the welcome... More

Firstly, the location was excellent, with a great view over the harbour and the hill behind. This may sound a little snobby, being a non-French speaker in France, but there was only one member of staff who spoke any English, which was odd for a touristy area. This made things more challenging. We struggled to get red wine (almost unheard... More

Great location in the harbor! The service was ok wine glass often empty. Food very good sauces spiced just right all products. Melon purée with pepper delightful to the taste buds! Dessert fantastic.

There are not many decent restaurants around the Port of Nice. The food here is above average but not exciting enough to seek out at such high prices. I really recommend the plat du jour menu which will come in quite reasonably.....with quality food. My set meal had cream of asparagus soup and a good local white fish on polenta.... More

Food was very tasty and we'll decorated. I was a little bit disappointed 😞 by the service staff. They're all nice and polite but not professional at all. You need to train your staff. Overall, good food, service is not as high as kitchen. Dommage.

Zero atmosphere. The service from the outset was poor: terse staff with attitudes that appeared to be bordering on contempt for customers. Visited with 5 other people for birthday celebration. One of our party explained (in French) that she has an allergy to seafood; the waiter ignored her. The excessively priced 'Daurade' - a whopping 35 euros - was a... More

Not helped by only having 3 other patrons during our lunch time visit. Pea soup was Luke warm but Bream fish good with crunched vegetables. As lunch time no wine so bill of 175 Euros expensive for average meal and no atmosphere. Or service.

I have to say this was the worst dining experience In over 45 years!! The service was simply dreadful. We were given a complimentary fish soup before our main course which the bowl had not been placed on the plate properly and hence the waitress tipped over my wife's expensive woollen top! Ok, mishaps happen but we had to ask... More

Located in an old house in the port of Nice, L'Âne Rouge and its pretty little terrace are well known in Nice. The food is simple, based on fresh, local produce, yet is chic and refined at the same time. The menu is based around fish and shellfish, used to produce the imaginative dishes of Chef Michel Devillers. Try the courgette flower with sardines served with Riviera noodles; braised sea bass with fresh coconut or parfum of haddock and Chipencornet. Otherwise choose from the great fish of the day selection such as gilthead bream, red sea bream, sea bass, John Dory, all caught by Mr Gilbert the fisherman. As far as desserts go, the chocolate macoranade and the Bulgarian ice cream are irresistible.
