I must admit, Antibes is a treasure of culture, sunshine, the wealthy and now after this experience the home of “Tub Sourced Beef Tartar”. More on that later. My partner and I have passed La Cameo on our numerous wonders around Antibes over the years...however it was only this time we decided to venture in. We had previously enjoyed espressos which were reasonably priced and rather delicious. With this false sense of security we decided to try the food menu out. As we weren’t particularly hungry so we opted for the Beef Tartar and Onion Rings. A perfect little snack we thought. What a mistake that was. The tartar had been prepared poorly and resembled Road Kill you find on the side of the M25, tasteless with no texture and smell that would put the most hungriest of dogs. The overpowering taste of tomato ketchup was an extreme surprise to us both. The chips were limp, tasted of old oil and the salad was equally as bad. To make it even worse the Onion Rings, (something that looked like it had travelled from a Burger King in Nice) cost us €10!! The waitress a fairly unpleasant women popped over to our table and seemed throughly surprised that we had only had 4 tiny fork fulls of our science experiment and asked what was wrong. We both stated that the Tartar was rather smooth… she replied saying that it has been been pre - prepared and most likely had come out of a tub. At that moment we knew it was time to cut our €32 loss and run. However before we could do that, we realised that we had been charged €6 for a bottle of water when we had not asked for it. We had specifically requested tap water, however the waitress brought a bottle and opened it on the spot and claimed we had finished it when we hadn’t. On that note we paid and left as quickly as possible. I am currently writing this 1 hour after that experience with a glass of Rose outside Cesars Caffe. A much better establishment! AVOID LA CAMEO AT ALL COST.More
