I'd like to know why perfection trumps comfort. The very haughty maitre d'hôtel reprimanded staff who didn't meet his exacting standards, something we found very unpleasant. When he saw we were uneasy, he engaged one of our party in banter about the crass Americans at...More

Probably the most disappointing fine-dining experience we've ever had. We are happy to spend quite a bit of money and time for a delicious, creative, high-quality, well-served meal. This meal, while expensive, offered none of the rest. Avoid. The service was so inattentive and slow...More

Good was great from 'amuse bouche' to tiny chocolate at dessert- after some minor discussion we went for spring set menu among 7 - and it went well: staff are humorous and made evening swim along: meal looks big but we felt light anyway at...More

My daughter and I ordered the spring menu, several wonderful courses, each one perfectly executed. The recommended wine was a perfect match. The service was incredible. We ate on the outside patio and it was a great evening.

We dined at lunchtime and thoroughly enjoyed our meal. The service is outstanding and the food was amazing. I loved the retractable awning that kept the bright sun from heating us up too much.

Delicious food with good location & view, and with good red wine which suite their meal. Their waiter said proudly that their sommelier is king of the king! p.s if you have any food preference or religion reason can't have beef or lamp, please double...More

Great food and good wine selection. We sat in front of the balcony with an excellent atmosphere. The food was well presented and the staff is friendly mostly. At some points it looked like things were not very well synchronized or orchestrated which is something...More

Ate at Etienne for lunch. We chose it for the Michelin rating. The reviews below don't do the place justice. The food was very good including the Foie Gras, veal, fish dish, dessert. What we had was what I would expect form a one star...More

All around unmemorable and disappointing. Let's start with the Sommelier as others have had the same experience (see hib2008 & martinidoc in the last few weeks). We were so brazen to bring (with phoned in approval) a fine bottle of California Rhone and offered a...More

Set next to Avignon's magnificent Palace of the Popes, Restaurant Christian Etienne is a divine dining destination with sweeping views of the city and of the Rhone valley. Michelin-starred chef Christian Etienne is passionate about food, and his seasonal menu – themed on tomatoes in summer, truffles in winter, asparagus in spring and mushrooms in autumn – has been inspired by the kitchens of his mother and grandmothers. This is a sensational spot for meals with a view, and the food certainly lives up to the restaurant's stunning setting. Etienne's signature dish is the roasted lobster claws served with asparagus and a confit of fresh ginger root and sesame seeds, and the restaurant has a superb Cote du Rhone-led wine list.
