If you want to impress people, invite them to Yamato and enjoy the quality of the drinks, the food and the wine. The nicest tables to reseve are the ones with a view on the garden.

GREAT FOOD, FRIENDLY, PERSONAL SERVICE, BEAUTIFUL LOCATION My parents and I (I'm 18) came here for dinner and were greatly impressed. Judging by the seemingly low quality restaurants in the surrounding area, we were not expecting much from a Japanese place in Provincial France but since the Via Michelin gave it a solid review on its 2015 app, we gave... Overall a disappointing experience. the food is not bad but too expensive for what it claims to be. Sukiyaki was pretty good, but the most disappointing is the lady owner: basically the more you spend the more she may smile! she started pushing her "cocktail of the house", champagne+plum. it was good but it is NOT champagne (it is blanc... Yes, Yamato is on the tad expensive side. But that's also the only restaurant that kept on doing good and honest sushis in Aix for many years. For most foreigners, eating good sushis can be a given (and we're not speaking about the take-away junk, or whatever fusion restaurants are doing). But in France, except in Paris, this is rather... Excellent japanese restaurant. Fish could not be fresher (the chef cook goes and buys it fresh every morning himself). The ambiance is refined, zen and typical japanese. Madame the owner is very welcoming and takes her time to explain everything, very helpful on wines as well. You must check out the wine cellar that you can see on the lower... More

This is a fairly long post so please bear with me. I would underline four issues. 1. Reservations. We called one Thursday at 13h30 in person to try and book. We rang at the locked gate and got no answer. We sent three e-mails, one in Japanese, still no answer. On our fourth attempt of phoning a woman replied. When... More

We visited Yamoto for lunch in July during our south of france tour. The restaurant is a little hidden at the end of av. de Bleges. Once entering the small iron gate, the small zen-style garden is the first nice welcome. Inside and outside seting possible, both with decent Japanese touch. We choose the Jamato menue with additional sushi &... More

We enjoyed 2 great meals at Yamato. Having eaten French food for 6 weeks it was a breath of fresh air! The decor is traditional Japanese, simple and comfortable. The food was fresh and tasty, not overly fancy, but good quality and delicious. The sushi and sashimi were excellent. Mme Yuriko welcomed us on both occasions and was very attentive... More

The menu 42.50 euros is false. They charge plus 5 euros for the first dish, sushi although in their site is written that this extra would be charged only for sashimi other sashimi and sushi. Also the last dish, Maigret de canard other sukiyaki there wasn`t when I went there and the waitress/owner said in a very rude manner that... More

This restaurant is located in Aix-en-Provence near central bus station. It can be tricky to find a place to park car here during the day so it is better to go directly to Rotonde car park. Food is absolutely fabulous and the closest to real Japanese food I have ever seen outside of Japan. It servers specialties from all other... More
