If you run a restaurant with only two choices of main and two choices of starter, they all need to be amazing. Sadly they weren't. Went for dinner on a hot night and sat inside. They needed a fan or air conditioning because it was stifling. Two staff only for a full restaurant was not enough, and consequently service was... More

A reservation is a must as we had to book 4 days in advance. Quiet location away from the harbour. Staff friendly, attentive and professional. We had had the plat de jour, which was the best value we experienced during our 6 day stay. Pre entree arrived, complimentary and a very pleasant surprise. Daily menu. Starters close to fine dining.... More

This place is a small intimate bistro style restaurant offering a limited but well considered menu of superb food at reasonable prices. Six of us had a fantastic meal with duck or mussels as a starter followed by beef or fish and excellent fresh deserts. These we're beautifully prepared, presented and absolutely delicious. If you are visiting La Rochelle thoroughly... More

The L' Amaranthe is an absolute pleasurable eating experience, I have eaten in many restaurants but this was just one step forward, from the very stylish tableware, fantastic staff who explained our dishes perfectly, the food was absolutely exquisite prepared with such precision and by a team that loved their work, what more can I say, just magic, well done... Five of us had a wonderful meal here. From memory, the menu was E24 for 2 course and E29 for 3 courses. We all went for three course and had a lovely chicken liver pate as an amuse bouche first. Great presentation. Choice of about three or four staters and two main dishes. Did not see anything for vegan or... More

Fantastic reception. Despite our mistake in booking they found a table for us (restaurant was full) and we enjoyed an excellent dinner on the terrace. Two entrees and two mains (fish/meat) changing every evening. Very reasonable prices (also for the wine list). Food was fresh and preparation flavourful. Don't miss it if you are a La Rochelle!

My husband and I enjoyed one of the best meals we have eaten in France at this delightful, small restaurant. The value is exceptional with each course carefully prepared with local, fresh ingredients and beautifully presented. Only two offerings per course, but such delights! Lamb brochettes or cucumber gazpacho/seaweed cake for the entrees, veal or fish for the main courses,... More

small, quiet restaurant, no music (and i would have turned the lights lower) but the food is amazing, seaweed cakes ( which im sure were laverbread, popular in Wales, never tasted it in a restaurant before) excellent duck, small choice beautifully done, great wine, great beer selection, very much doing the organic thing. Even on a quiet wet night in... More

This tiny spot has superb cuisine from a chef who worked for a super star and has opened his own spot in a place where excellent ingredients are abundant.

My wife and I, having just arrived in La Rochelle, came upon this restaurant whilst out sightseeing. I recognised the name from T.A. and we booked for that night. We were not let down! Whilst eating, a number of couples were turned away and all had disappointed faces as they left. It may not be for everyone but it was... More
