Don't listen to the bad reviews! We were really happily surprised after seeing the bad reviews.... The place was packed but we managed to get a table! There is a lot of choice on the menu for fish and meat. We all went for fish entreé and main and the food was amazing! Friendly staff and nice atmosphere.

A good range of local seafood is served at le Canot. There are meat dishes available as well. It is all fresh and well cooked. The service was excellent, this restaurant can get very busy in the holiday season but has enough staff to ensure service remains good. We enjoyed the mussels and if you don't want a large desert... I'ts hard to choose which restaurant to eat at along the quay in Port La Rochelle. We chose Le Canot and were not disappointed. A good and reasonably extensive menu with a strong seafood bias as would be expected. The food was good bistro standard, the waiter excellent and the outlook and crowds walking up and down outside entertaining.

Lesson learned! Here I am writing a review...if only I'd checked here before eating here. Mussels..worst I've ever had...anywhere! Small..half of which weren't open..chicken burger you would think safe...wrong...dry,tasteless,probably warmed up from lunch time. Just dreadful. You would think when half your food is left uneaten...waiter might say something....nothing. well I did feel like saying something...so here it is. Avoid Avoid... More

Specialising in mussels. Natural, with blue cheese, cream or curry sauce!! Although we were put at the outside extension we experienced people smoking all around us which was unpleasant. Tables very small and rather an obstical course in getting all items to use. Not a pleasant dining experience.

All we'd hoped for on a busy, sunny, lunchtime in February. Nice welcome and seated under cover on the warmed patio overlooking the harbour. Not a huge menu and mussels are the speciality. Service was good, happy to speak English when needed, happier still if you try your French first. Food was good, well prepared and presented and excellent value,... More

Had a fish soup that was OK and mussels with local wine sauce that tasted mainly of alcohol. The wine did not provide much of a taste to them. The mousse au chocolat was fine. They ran out of the local beer which was sad. Surely they can do better. PS: if you like my review click OK

Having walked up one of the towers in the old port we walked round and found a table at Le Canot. Friendly welcome and taken straight to our table. Food came fairly quick (fast enough for an impatient 3yr and 5yr old) kids had the pizzas which were good value but massive fir their ages! Must have been an 9inch... More

Not the best meal but this restaurant is in a great position on the harbour. Eat from the set menus to people watch & not feel ripped off.
