Stumbled upon this place while looking for somewhere to eat while visiting Nantes with my husband and 2 children. They're all fussy so we nearly always end up in a McDonald's as it's the safe option. We ended up back here the second night of...our stay as we were all so impressed with the food. Burgers are the best we have ever tasted and the chips were to die for. Lovely service. Well worth the money.More

I was visiting Nantes for work and went to La Ripaille for dinner one night. The service was great, and the burger was good. I would definitely recommend it.

Outside eating with a takeaway too. Plastic plates cheap bendy cutlery, you get the idea. Staff were very friendly and the food was delicious €12.5 for set menu with drink, main and pudding.

We went here twice on a recent visit to Nantes - purely chose it the first time by chance, and went back for the last meal of our stay. There are only tables outside, and it clearly does a lot of "take out" business as..."Deliveroo" cyclists turned up to take orders away constantly. The service was fine (maybe first time the waitress was new to the job, but second visit they were very good) and the food, if you like this kind of food, is really enjoyable. None of us can stand the poor excuses for chips we find so often in the UK - pale, saggy and pretty unpalatable, whilst often sold as if top of the tree for the area. These "frites" were cooked in beef dripping (we think) and crisp and brown on the outside. You could have your burger cooked as you wanted and the other dish we had was the Thai chicken, which my wife and daughter both thoroughly enjoyed. There is a choice of fixed price menus which can really offer decent value for the area, although we opted not to take that option on the second visit. La Ripaille says it only uses fresh ingredients, not frozen, and I can believe it. The burger was far better than you would usually get in the UK, and I quite like my UK burgers!! Washed down with Badoit (again, personal taste, but my one of my favourite drinks and definitely favourite sparkling water) and a glass of Leffe, and I would happily go there again if in NantesMore

We spotted this place when visiting Chateau de Duc Bressagne as it is only about a two minute walk away. We just missed it because it shuts in the afternoon and then reopens for evening trade. A little place that mostly does take away (lots...of deliveroo cyclists in evidence.) there was only about 4 tables to sit at, so you would be wise to make a reservation if you really want to be sure of a table. You can only sit outside, there is no inside seating and there are umbrellas over the tables. They do veggie dishes which is why we went there. I didn't like the look of the starters (quite meat/fish orientated and didn't fancy the bruschetta type starter, ) so the waitress -who had just started-said the chef would do something for me, a surprise! Oh these witty French, it was a salad. Not the sort of surprise I was hoping for! For a main I had a veggie burger with fries and salad, it was very tasty and well presented. The menu was a bit of a pick and mix and somehow the whole table ended up with lots of chips even though we hadn't ordered any! The waitress was funny and quirky and keen to help. My husband had some big steak type dish (which was rare despite asking for medium to well done) and a huge bruschetta which he enjoyed. I had Diet Coke to drink, it was licensed and my husband had a Diet Coke too as the beers on the menu were wheat beers and he doesn't like them. The meal was very reasonably priced and it's always nice to find somewhere veggie in meat loving France!More

Best tasting "Boeuf" in pepper sauce since leaving New Zealand many years ago, said my husband , came with home made chips & warm bread also made on site. I had a delicious huge Beef Burger & chips. Desserts gave a varied choice we opted...for a chocolate mousse & caramel ice cream (we couldnt eat another thing) Although a huge plate of cheeses & bread also included in the dessert options had been noted by "someone sat opposite me" !! All of this washed down with beautiful glasses of organic wine & coffees to finish. Thank you so much "La Ripaille" for making our trip to Nantes one never to be forgotten & soon to be re visited just to try another selection from a very tempting menu.More
