Big portions, friendly staff - get a "pichet de vin" if you don't want to pay for an expensive bottle.

Awesome bistro food with incredible salads (get the warm goat cheese) and mains—biggest shrimp I’ve ever seen. Wait staff so friendly I felt I was in my own back yard eating with my family. Owner is the cook and we watched him from our table...next to the kitchen whipping up hid wonderful bistro fare. When we complimented him and told him we’re from Chicago, he comped us after dinner liquors. Such a nice overall experience and killer great food. Highly recommended!!!More

We visited for dinner with friends who had eaten here before. Welcome was very good and very accommodating. There is a 2 course 24 euro menu or you can chose from a small board of main courses. The portion sizes are massive as we ordered...a very large gésier, duck and goats cheese salad which was more than enough for 2 people but then again it was 21 euro. Deserts are very good, home made and again large portions. There is not an extensive drinks offering, beer wine and a few spirits. The waiting staff and very friendly and helpful. It was a good experience and I would definitely go backMore

Strange menu. There's the chalk board with the usual 'formule de midi' (starter: salade fraicheur, mains: salade +tart, fish + tabbouleh) and then another board for other salads. The latter,we were told, were giant and enough for two people. The salade fraicheur starter was a...meal on its own- lettuce, tomatoes, cucumber, plastic cheese and ham all tossed into a bowl and not well-seasoned. The fish main was pretty tasteless. The giant salads ordered were giant but effectively lots of lettuce with a goat's cheese toast on top, and the salade + tart main was the starter again plus a quiche. The service was okay. Outside seating was cramped and noisy. Pichet of wine was okay. So for two salads plus 2 starters+main, 50cl wine and 3 coffees we paid 60 euros.More

Other reviews took me and a friend here last week - it has an informal feel; not your quiet, romantic sort of place! The staff are very friendly and there is a decent choice of food and wine. The starters are fairly salad dominated ......but the salads are very good and ENORMOUS!! One between two will be fine ... trust me!! The main courses are all prepared on a grill so a variety of brochettas and the like ... but all very tasty. It's also very well situated - right in the middle of Carmes; which is a great place to find a bar and/or restaurant.More

Went there on a Sunday evening with 6 friends .We were made very welcome and shown to a table near the front window. Scallops decided to have the 20euro 2 course menu. Our waitress suggested we have 1 starter between 2 as they were so...large.Then share a pudding between 2. This was a good call. It was all good. We loved the wine and beer. We would go again.More

We live near to Toulouse. This restaurant is always first choice when we fancy a really good eat in the centre of town. If you take the one of the 'menus' for about 23€ then each course is effectively a meal in itself. The atmosphere...is pretty rustic, you can eat inside or outside, and the staff are very friendly. Most importanty, the food is cooked to pefection and the portions are very generous.More

Just a few minutes from the tram/metro stop at Palais de Justice is a small area with a number of restaurants in it. Old town buildings and narrow street almost covered in tables for outside dining and the Bistro de Carmes is just at the...beginning of the street. On the way there you pass several other places which look enticing, and on the nights we went to the area were already full. The general price in all of them is 20 to 25 euros for a main course. As it is in the Bistro de Carmes. We arrived about 8 and it was already so busy only inside seating was available. The following night some fifteen minutes later there was a queue for a table and .sat in the North African restaurant opposite. Throughout our meal there the queue at the Bistro never lessened. Anyway on what was clearly our lucky night we took the set two course menu at 23€. We started with a salad and that was enormous and almost enough for a meal on its own. That is not to say it was't a delicious salad and well dressed. We followed with a fish main course although we prefer a vegetarian one it wasn't on offer. Mine was a large piece of sustainable cod on a bed of lightly cooked vegetables. The sweets didn't look too promising so we decided we would find a patisserie and have dessert and coffee elsewhere. Years of living in Spain where it is common to take different courses in different restaurants made this an easy option. A thoroughly recommended choice, just make sure you are reasonably hungry when you go.More

In Toulouse on a business trip and went for a perambulation with a colleague. This place is on a street corner, great place to people watch and soak up the atmosphere. Service was prompt and pleasant. No problems at all. Now I pride myself on...being pretty robust when it comes to food. If you have read any of my reviews you'll know I'm pretty basic, definitely not a connoisseur. So, I went for the local sausage. Specifically the Andouillette '5A'. Unless you have a specific love of this sausage type, you should never eat it. Choose something, anything, else. It is a local delicacy that visitors are well to avoid. I made the mistake. Ordered it, hated it, left it well alone. The waiter looked at me knowingly when I passed it back. Other than that, the place is fine. Go for it!More
