We spent the day in Nancy. We were very pleased with the mini tourism train, which we boarded in Stanislaus Square. This is truly one of the most beautiful places and cities on earth. After touring the old city, we returned to Stanislaus Square and...the Brasserie Jean Lamour, a restaurant operating since 1897. I chose one of the daily specials which was a grilled Pollack on a bed of black noodles. Laura had the Quiche Lorraine And we shared a plate of three cheeses. She had two glasses of wine from Alsace. I had a nice amber beer from the Nancy area. The meals were good and the service even better. Best of all was the cheese plate. I strongly Recommend this restaurant.More

Thieves, 13,00 for a croque monsieur on the terrace. Other than that not a terrible experience, but I will never go back.

A lovely dining room and cafe - the perfect place for a petite dejuneur accompanied by a glass of bubbly. Our waitress was obviously very new as plates put down were immediately removed again (by a waiter) and the coffee and juice added. Then she...had to be asked for some of the other missing bits like butter on one plate and jam on the other. A little training by management beforehand could have made her first few days much more pleasant. Still a wonderful place to relax over breakfast.More

Stopped in for a petit déjeuner on a lovely sunny Sep morning. Delightful spot, Stanislas Square is stunning! Had a traditional French breakfast. Fairly straight forward but all was good - coffee, orange juice, croissant, baguette with bread & jam. Hit the nail on the...head for us.More

Visited in August and asked if they could deal with a special diet - having spoken to three people and waited for almost half hour, whilst they appeared to carry on regardless, we chose to leave. There are better options in Place Stanislas!

I would recommend this place for a cafe, dessert or a drink. The food wasn’t bad, but is a bit overpriced for the quality you get. I had beef tartare, which was so so. Wine however was great, good service and desserts too.

We arrived in Nancy around 3pm and were desperate to find something open but we were lucky! The Brasserie is open the whole day, is situated in the heart of Nancy on Stanislas square and is an excellent point to view the famous light show...on the square. The waiter spoke English and gave us an English menu which was a plus. We were in a group of four. My mother had a fish soup with king scallops which was excellent. The rest of us did not have starters. The main course was very good as well, the deserts very tasty! They also served very nice Leffe rouge beer which Ifell in Love with. The service was good and efficient, we will definitely come back when in Nancy.More

We arrived at 10:10pm the summer light show had begun and we very lucky to get a front row table for two. We order our food, couple of local beers and a bottle of Pouilly Fume and enjoyed the show. What a great way to...spend an evening. The food arrived quickly and was cooked to perfection and the service immaculate.More

Sat down for coffee on the beautiful Plaz Stanislaz. Ordered 2 cappuccino’s and 2 water (€4 a glass). We had to pay €16,40 in total. We knew it would be expensive because of the location, but for €4,20 a cup you cannot serve a bad...wiener melange instant cappuccino. So so so bad...More

We really enjoyed our very long lunch sitting outside looking onto Stanislau Square. We were really able to enjoy the food and company in excellent surroundings. While it looks a bit like a tourist trap, our food was actually very nice. Our waiter was superb...too.More

Brasserie Le Jean Lamour is a gem, a spacious restaurant with many rooms. On a cold, damp Monday evening in January, we were situated in a gold-ish room, not far from the high chalkboard which displays a wide range of choices. The seating is comfortable....The Jean Lamour is flexible in its offerings, and skilled in anticipating patrons' needs. I particularly like the efficiency with which we were escorted to the table. During an 11-day tour of France, the best waiter I saw came from The Jean Lamour. The yellow soup was warming, what may have been a butternut squash, or something similar. The beef was tender and the fries were cut in a concave shape that allowed a contrast between soft center and crispy edges. The "Moutard Ancienne" was most welcome. San Pellegrino was available, as was a fair-to-middlin' coffee drink. The clientele was diverse. Nearby was an army of working women, displaying mobile phones on the table, and perhaps still jazzed up with fresh tales from jobsite. In another direction was a pack of important, concerned males-- "men about town" perhaps, lamenting the state of European affairs. Also close by was a fit man, possibly Tunisian, dutifully providing fare for his family, which included a wife and at least two kids. One of the sons was "going to town" on his chocolate dessert, afterwards showing a willingness to help his mother finish her dessert. I liked the color of this place. I believe it was a green entry-mat that informed us "Depuis 1897," which means the restaurant has been operating "since 1897." I can understand why. It was a treat to go there. We had aimed to dine at Grand Cafe Foy, but were disappointed to find it was under renovation. We then tried to dry off at the Grand Hotel De La Reine, and consulted the front-desk man, who recommended a faraway place. After that, we bolted across the square to find a "restaurant" whose sales consisted disproportionately of alcoholic beverages. I took a fresh juice, which was of good quality, though the lackluster service called for a swift exit-- though not too swift, as my companion and I could not get the attention of the aloof waitress, until walking across the floor to meet her. After the juice stop, we bolted across the square once again in the rain. We aimed for the Pizzeria Michelangelo, but we missed, perhaps confusing one green sign for another. (That whole area of Nancy commerce, more or less, uses similar green signs.) We had not entered the pizzeria, but rather The Jean Lamour. I gestured that we go back outside, and bolt once more, this time to the actual pizzeria, but my companion said "basta," that The Jean Lamour would have to do. But The Jean Lamour did more than do. It was a fabulous refuge, and we stayed for at least an hour-- not due to slow service, but because it was comfortable and entertaining. The concerned staff had been quick to ensure we got the best seat in the house. After the meal, we continued to get lost in the rain. Thankfully there is a large, black van-taxi roaming about the city, and the receptionist at a hotel off the beaten path was able to call it. Sometimes in these foreign cities especially, one is better off trusting the professionals.More
