We were recommended this place by our hosts who own the mirage barge. We enjoyed the land salad and lamb sausage both of which were some of the nicest food we have had this holiday (we have been driving round France and Spain). Deserts were also good- I would recommend the French toast. The only thing for me that let... More

After wandering about other restaurants and reading their menus, I chose chez-fred (last menu I perused & by then I was really hungry). The staff were pleasant and friendly, nice little courtyard where I dined, started off with a vin blanc sangria (addictive) & given a complimentary biscuits and garlic cheese combo to nibble on, ordered the steak (mustard sauce)... Two of ate their tonight. Despite the name its a nice atmospherewith an outsidd courtyard. We had the menu gourmand at 23€ for 2 courses. My choice was bruschetta spread with an aubergine dip and topped with goat cheese served with a delicious salad. My main was beautifully cooked squid served with crunchy vegetables. The squid was the best i... More

We waddled out quite content. I had the cassoulet prix fix (a dish from the regions I had yet to try) of white beans, Duck confit and sausage. I found it flavorful and more than filling. The sangria was a white sangria. It was delicious and I enjoyed cinnamon spice in it. They also had a local Carcasson beer (the... More

We ended up going twice in a very short visit, seduced initially by reviews and then massively confirmed by first experience. Brilliant and creative seafood 'full repas', with garnishes of beautifully grilled and marinated veg; Carefully and precised grilled lamb chops, just 'bleu' enough; Wonderful squid steaks (how do they find them so fat?) again briefly grilled and with a... This place was recommended by an Internet site and it was very nice. It opens for dinner @ 7.30 pm. We got there a little early and were allowed to sit in the restaurant and gave a drink. The food was delicious. We tried the bruschetta made with Aubergine, the squid and the chicken dish. They were all very nice.... More

If you are feeling over fed and that all menus look the same, try Fred's. The chef/owner is very present and helped us to choose a local wine from a newly named region La Chappe. You don't have to order multiple courses. A delicious salad of local lentils was topped with Iberic ham. Grilled mushrooms, eggplant, zucchini and asparagus came... More

This restaurant was recommended to us by the girl looking after the canal moorings as being a good place for local dishes. It was located down an alleyway. The menu was limited and the portions were fairly small. Food was ok but we wouldn't return. There are lots of places to eat in the main town that look a better bet

Chez fred is situated just 200 mars from the main railway stn in Carcassonne and adjacent to the Midi canal Basin. It offers a varied menu of traditional local dishes at reasonable prices with set menu and plats du jour. Inexpensive and well located for train and canal travellers

After wondering around Carassonne without much luck we came to Chez Fred, lovely 3 course set menu, everything was delicious but I really enjoyed the tart citron. Lovely service too and staff were very kind about my terrible French!!
