Superb meal, fantastic English speaking staff. A very lovely French dining experience that beats anything we have found in Paris. Well priced for the exceptional food. Versailles has been a gastronomic delight.

A little of the beaten track from where most Versailles restaurants are to be found, lies this absolute gem. Run by husband and wife duo Stefan and Stefanie, Chez StefS provided us with a truly wonderful meal. The menu changes on a daily basis according...to the produce purchased on the day. Started with a rich chicken pate, followed by a slow-cooked steak in red wine sauce that melted in the mouth. All washed down with a glass of Malbec. The service provided by both Stefs was warm and helpful, and the cosy atmosphere added to the overall dining experience. Highly recommended.More

My husband found Chez StefS via Yelp after a long day touring the palace in September 2019. We were looking for an authentic ("non-touristy") local restaurant before heading back to Paris, and Chez StefS reviewed so well it became our choice for the evening. We...were in luck as there were two tables available for the evening in the charming restaurant. Being my first visit to France and not speaking any French beyond bonjour, merci, and au revoir, I was nervous experiencing my first restaurant meal. Our server (I found later to also be the co-owner) spoke English and was so patient and gracious, she made me feel immediately welcome and more at ease. The limited menu was perfectly suited to our tastes, and our meal was delicious and very well prepared (my fish and risotto were perfectly cooked and I still think about the wonderfully-intense flavor in the pistachio dessert). It was a lovely evening.More

Everything about Chez StefS is exactly what you would want a small French restaurant to be. Tucked down an unlikely side street, it has been set up in a stylish but thoroughly unpretentious manner and reflects the personality of the patrons. Stephanie is unfailing cheerful...and pleasant even though she serves all the customers on her own. She was also unnaturally tolerant as I murdered her beautiful native language. Likewise, her husband prepares all the food on his own in a kitchen that appears to be the size of a medium sized cupboard. Quite how they do it all themselves is a wonder in itself. I was a little nervous of the limited menu, but shouldn't have been. My starter was a large portion of a rough pate of pulled pork that was incredibly flavourful. My wife had the chicken and apricot terrine. Both were imaginative and extremely tasty. We both picked the lamb for main course. I normally avoid lamb but picked it by default over the salmon alternative. I don't know what part of the lamb this cut was from, it must have been the equivalent of the tenderloin as the texture was incredibly fine and tender. The sauce was superb and the accompanying mashed potato had a silky texture that reminded me of Joel Robuchon's legendary mash. A simple but stunningly well-executed dish. The wine list was quite short but well selected and the Saint Emilion that we chose was superb. Dessert was the house's speciality, a strange combination of cake and cookie with a sauce that reminded my of melted ice cream. It was sensational. If you are in Versailles for the evening and eat elsewhere, I can only pity you. Stephane and Stephanie have created an absolute gem.More

Even though it’s not a Michelin rated restaurant, it certainly deserves a 5-star rating. Excellent service and ambiance. Run by a husband and wife, they have figured out how to delight customers with delicious food, great service and affordable prices. The menu is limited but...only because their ingredients are fresh and seasonable. Despite the limited selection, everything we ordered was fantastic! Everything we had was out of this world. We were even tempted to order second servings of their desserts. Highly recommend!More

Wow! What a treat! I found Chez StefS on Trip Advisor and Yelp. We walked up at 7 and asked for a table. They were full for the night, but asked if we could be finished by 8:30 because of previously scheduled reservations. We said...yes and I'm so thankful they squeezed us in! This was hands down the best dinner we had in Versailles. The menus is small, 2 entrees and 4 starters. This is how it's done in France. We realized on our last night, it is not about the online menu (because honestly, not many of the really good authentic places post a menu) it is about the atmosphere and the food. This is a small local restaurant that is open for dinner from 7-9. They don't turn tables. We got there at 7 and left at 9:30. We saw them turn away locals who didnt have reservations. The "suggestions" for dinner were posted on a chalkboard that was brought around to each table by Stephanie. My dad had Seabass on rissoto and I had slow roasted chicken in a reduction sauce with pureed potatoes. For dessert I had the famous Brookie. It was amazing! Ok, Americans, don't look any further, call and make reservations for dinner when you are in the area!More

My husband and I have been vacationing in Europe for almost three weeks now and decided to spend the night in Versailles on a whim. We booked a reservation a Chez StefS based on the reviews, and it turned out to be one of the...greatest dining experiences we've ever had. The setting is intimate and romantic, with a rustic feel. Stephanie's impeccable service (she's the one server for the entire restaurant), as well as patience with two people whose Frence vocabulary amounts to maybe a dozen words, is something to be emulated by everyone in the service industry. The menu is small (changing almost nightly, from what we understand) and she explained each dish to us in great detail. What stands out most were the main dishes. We had a choice between cod and milk-fed veal, so we had one of each. Both were rich, flavorful and so tender, our forks easily cut into both without use of a knife. We've decided to have a good long stay in Versailles the next time we are in France. When we do, this family-owned establishment will be at the top of our list for dinners out. Bravo to the two Stefs for a most perfect evening.More

Reading the reviews we were intrigued and were not remotely disappointed. There were 4 starters, 2 mains and 3 desserts to choose from. The foie gras was creamy and flavorful. We each ordered a different main to spilt but didn’t want to share! My fish...was moist and the risotto was flavorful and full of vegetables. My husbands pork was moist, the mashed potatoes rich and the sauce that finished both dishes were divine. We were too full for dessert. Stephanie was kind enough to explain all to us in English which was much appreciated as my French is very basic. We hope to return again!More

There is a limited menu - just 4 starters and 2 mains on the night we went - but this was great and everything was absolutely delicious. Stef explained the menu and served us with great charm and patience. We were a large group (9)...and I'm afraid probably rather noisy but the service was very gracious and good.More
