When you step into this timeless venue, you will discover a festive restaurant straight out of a storybook and the imaginary world of Asterix. The success of the well-known concept is based on a simple, but effective idea: long rows of tables, mixed salads, grills and wine served from the barrel, all in gigantic quantities. Also worth mentioning is the outstanding welcome which contributes to the friendly atmosphere.

Fun, unique experience

We had a great time with this experience. It started with a big basket of raw whole veggies on the table, with which you can make your own salad if you're so inclined. Then there's the bar with yummy cured meats, the soup (bland lentil I think), and unlimited jugs of red wine. You choose your... read more

Place has great memories as it was one of the first places I ever went to in Paris several years ago. Always book on line before I leave the UK and the staff have always been great and I just love the way they present the salad. I have copied it at home for a BBQ. It's a place to... More

Poor standard of food and not much of it considering we paid 85€ each. Entertainment was a drunk Englishman singing in French. Not our idea of a nice night out. Low value even at half the price

This place was such a dive and so bad that all you could do was laugh and commit to due diligence in the future. The decor is Viking shabby - lots of tired and grimy plastic artefacts. The music was a mixture of weak heavy metal and Scottish bagpipes. The service was the worst I have experienced in Europe, nicely... More

All people, mainly coming from US, UK and France, all enjoyed the diner, ambiance, food,.. Don't hesitate to ask Julian to speak of the history of the building

It was a different experience with good value for money. But nothing exceptional. There were guitarists in each room. However we had the smallest room, and one of the tables refused to tip the guitarist so he got annoyed and ignored us for the rest of the evening. The piece of veal was over done and dry. Other food was... More

This was kind of a touristy place which our business group went to . Located just down the street from Notre Dame, it was easily accessible. They can also accommodated very large groups. It is themed in early French ancestry with furs, weapons, wood tables, and stone cold walls. Nos ancetres les Gaulois has a fixed, one price menu (40... More

I went with a big group which helped with the atmosphere, but it was a fun place - atmospheric cave-like dining area, long tables, various dead animal heads (there's a clue that it's not for vegetarians!). The "overflowing basket of crudites" was a basketful of raw vegetables - half a cabbage, bulbs of fennel, whole carrots etc. The self service... More

We visited here over the Christmas holiday and it was a fun visit. Everything is one price per person, which included a crudités basket, sausage/soup/prepared salad buffet, main course, cheese, dessert and all the wine you want. We stayed for two and one half hours, eating drinking and laughing. We will visit again next time we come to Paris

The restaurant was a hole in the wall joint. I was very uncomfortable to be there. As I walked in, there was bread on the table, which is very nice... if there wasn't bread on every table in the restaurant, which tells me the bread had been sitting there (for god knows how long). The bathroom was filthy and so... More

Staying in Ile de la Cite / Ile Saint-Louis

Neighborhood Profile
Ile de la Cite / Ile Saint-Louis
Two islands sit in the middle of the Seine at the very heart of Paris. The more majestic one, Ile de la Cité, sparkles with history. This is the birthplace of Paris, the home of the Gothic Sainte-Chapelle, and the site of the prison where Marie Antoinette was held before her execution. Tourists flock to see the iconic Notre Dame and the beautiful bridges that straddle the Seine. Ile Saint-Louis, the more provincial island, welcomes you with cozy traditional eateries, small boutiques, and what some people say is the best ice cream in the city. This is essential Paris from its very beginnings to its modern appeal.
