Arriving in Paris with little time to spare we were told of the Rue Moufftard and it's local atmosphere and great bars and Bistrots. We chose this place as we were starving and it looked nice. We ordered from what was a fairly basic menu and looked on at the street for the entertainment. The entertainment didn't last long as... More

What a great cafe, sitting in the very French Place de contrescarpe in the 5th Arrondisement. The plaza has a beautiful fountain in the center. The cafe is very French, we had coffee and drinks, finding that they offer the new absinthe for the daring... The crowd was cool, mixed in ages but all in all a good time. A... More

Great place to sit, order drinks and snacks, and watch the passing scene. Better service, seating and menu than the Cafe Contrescarpe, across the square. They do the whole absinthe thing but my wife, Mrs. Sothoth, won't let me try it. Super tolerant of people with little French.

Nothing special except for it being on rue Mouffetard. Often crowded & probably not enough staff therefore service is TERRIBLE. The food is average. After asking for the bill we received it, however to pay for it we waited 20 minutes. Paid too much for average food.

Very nice place to visit, we got burger and pizza and it was delicious. The service was excellent, the waiters always checking out everything is ok.

After a mix up with train tickets from Paris to Cannes, I found myself in Paris for the night. I wondered up a lane way from my hotel to discover this great square. The atmosphere was wonderful, as it was the Paris v Switzerland game in the Euros 2016. I sat outside with a rose and a pizza and wrote... More

We stopped for the Croque Madame sandwiches, which did not disappoint. Great location on a square with a fountain at the center, and despite other reviews we saw about poor service, ours was good. Staff was friendly and helpful.

I have been to Cafe Delmas many, many times but recently they got new staff and service has been going from bad to worse. Two weeks ago, I waited over 35 minutes to get a drink. The waiter simply did not stop by to take my order because I was seating alone. Apparently, women sitting alone are not entitled to... More

Cafe Delmas was the first Cafe my girlfriend and I visited after we arrived in Paris. It was recommended by our Airbnb host. It's located in Place de la Contrascarpe, a beautiful square with a number of cafes and bars in the middle of the Quartier Latin. Great location for lunch, dinner, or happy hour drinks! We ordered the cheese... More

We stayed just around the corner from the Place de la Contrescarpe and liked Cafe Delmas for our daily aperitif. Great people watching spot, friendly waiters. Aperol spritz highly recommended!

Staying in Quartier Latin

Neighborhood Profile
Quartier Latin
The Latin Quarter bursts with intellectual life, architectural splendor and ongoing merriment. The small streets are filled with classical buildings, student bars and lively eateries while the squares are dominated by historic monuments. The area is defined by the 800-year-old Sorbonne University, where Latin once prevailed, and is famous for the Pantheon which celebrates the great men and women of France. During the day students rush from classes to the library and intellectuals people watch from the terraced cafés. As night time falls the surrounding establishments fill up and the merriment really begins. The liveliest parts are around Rue Mouffetard, lined with crêperies and international street food eateries, and Place de la Contrescarpe characterised by terraced brasseries, this neighborhood provides real nourishment for the mind, belly, and soul.
