Tiny restaurant the size of a postage stamp. Beautiful food, the service was friendly and very helpful with dietary requirements. I had scallop carpaccio to start which, when I asked for a matching wine, was recommended Sake which made for an unexpected but excellent suggestion. Lamb followed as main, tender and perfectly cooked. We split on cheese and dessert the... More

invited here by some friends in december 2015. everything about it was outstanding. ambience, decor, wine, service, and of course the food. the restaurant is extremely small (perhaps 7 or 8 tables) and food is prepared more of less in front of you. menu is very small, you have only a couple of choices and it's the way it should... We dined at this tiny restaurant December 22nd. I made the reservation a couple of months in advance by email--Agnes responded quickly and it was easy. We were not disappointed. It is very small and has a prix fixe menu without choices, but the food and ambience were wonderful. Agnes is delightful and you can watch the kitchen. The appetizer... More

A restaurant with so few tables has to serve excellent food to make a go of it...and the chef really comes through! The 3-course menu was inventive and delicious. The entree included mashed celery root and an egg that was cooked to the degree of a soft boiled egg, but was out of the shell...how did he do that? The... More

We had the privilege at Le Timbre... best meal of my life! Each course was better than the next, and our server was excellent and helped us to pick a wonderful wine to go along with our meal. I am from NY and so consider myself to be a bit of a food snob- dining at Le Timbre is a... More

We have been dining at Le Timbre for a few years and have never been disappointed even with the change of chef. After a very warm welcome to this tiny bistro restaurant of 20? seats and open kitchen, we took our seats after a sliding puzzle of seats. It was a special Birthday lunch and we were interested in the... More

My wife and I had an excellent meal at Le Timbre. The menu changes frequently, and the choices are a 3, 4 or 5 course dinner. We chose the five courses. Each was excellent -- delicious, creative and beautifully presented. The service was also very well done and the woman who waits on tables and manages the front room (and... More

If you are just a neophyte tourist on a whim please don't go to le timbre. If you read the great reviews but know nothing about food please stay away. If you do not appreciate wines from unknown producers but rather tend toward flash appelations and well known winemakers avoid by all means. It is for serious gourmets who can... More

We reserved 3 weeks in advance for this cozy gem but were disappointed with the prix fixe fare. The Haddock and Veal we so bland as to be non-discript. If we didn't know we were being served veal it would have been mystery meat. The fish was bland but identifiable as fish. We walked by everyday of our 10 day... More

Staying in Saint-Germain-des-Pres

Neighborhood Profile
Saint-Germain-des-Pres
In Saint-Germain-des-Prés, life is effortlessly chic and all things are beautiful. The main boulevard is dotted with famed terraced cafés, haut-couture shops, ivy-covered railings and fine-dining restaurants. Antique dealers and art galleries surround the fine art school and small museums hide in unassuming squares. The neighborhood’s namesake church is the oldest in Paris and is the backdrop for talented musicians every weekend. The Luxembourg Gardens house the national senate, splendid lawns and flourishing flower beds. Famous faces and bourgeois Parisians frequent Saint Germain accompanied by the students of Rue Saint Guillaume and Rue des Saints-Pères. This is a neighborhood where afternoon people-watching from a café or playing cards in a brasserie are a key part of the daily fabric.
