Upon entrance to this restuarant, one could see and feel the upscale ambience. Rich decor and arts. The seafood on the tables of the diners looked very appetizing. We got a friendly greeting when we entered the place. After a short wait we got seated in a corner spot. Glancing at the diners, we could see most of them looked... More

Everything was impressive except for the food but I might have ordered the wrong dishes. Oysters were great great great but main course was not something I would go back for. Service from entry to finish was great, attentive staffs and professionally done. Being an architect and interior designer, the decor itself was a great experience to remind us of... More

We had no plans and were doing what we most enjoyed in Paris - wondering around, getting lost but finding fabulous and unexpected experiences at every corner we turned! We wondered past Le Grand Cafe Capucines and decided to go in....well, we were greeted by friendly and formal wait staff and continued to be waited on perfectly despite not ordering... More

Wanting to treat myself to a special meal on my last day in Paris I went out of my way to track down Le Grand Cafe Capucines. The art nouveau interior was dazzling. Unfortunately, having had lacklustre food and service at Bofinger and Le Train Bleu, I have come to the conclusion that you have to sacrifice quality of attentiveness... More

This palce has been here since 1875 and it is easy to see why. A fabulous selection of fresh seafood - both cooked and of the raw bar variety - lead a menu of classic French delights. If the sole meuniere is available - get it! Fresh and deboned tableside, it is a treat. Onion soup is delicious and the... More

I decided to treat myself to lunch because of the decor: totally beautiful. Once I looked at the carte I decided to have entrée and desert. Both were of a quality that matched the decor: superb. I did make the mistake of asking the waiter to choose a glass of wine to match the food I ate: the glass of... More

They have not a big menu, but there is seafood in menu ( oysters , shells etc.) . Everything is fresh. It's the best point. A lot of people, sometimes there is a line before entrance. As usually in Paris, the tables are very narrow and a few space for sitting people. It is not good point.

This large cafe decorated in the style of the belle epoch had smartly dressed waiters whose interactions were mainly with other staff members and only minimally with their customers. This resulted in a very unsatisfactory meal. The mineral water we ordered on arrival did not turn up to half way through our entree, even though we had queried its non... More

Beautifully decorated rooms with great views over the street lend this traditional cafe real ambiance. The seafood is varied and fresh -- we were amazed at the some of the creatures that arrived on our shared seafood platter.

Popped in for a lunch, the service was very good and the food was traditional if a little over priced for the qaulity and the portion size. The location is of course very good and so it makes a good spot to have a coffee at least and watch the world wizz by.

Description
The restaurant's refined decor is a faithful illustration of the Art Nouveau style, with its original mosaics and its crystal Saint-Louis chandeliers a truly Parisian institution located on the Place des Ternes. The head chef prepares a refined, traditional French cuisine using the freshest ingredients. An immensely popular restaurant with both Parisians and discerning tourists, who appreciate beautifully prepared food.

Staying in Opera / Bourse

Neighborhood Profile
Opera / Bourse
The neighborhood around Opéra and Bourse is a belle époque paradise of grand boulevards, refined arcades, and mass-market art-nouveau entertainment. Here, modern day workers continue to take advantage of the legacy that nobility and finance left in the 19th century. Brightly-lit brasseries, theaters, and cinemas sit side by side with French bistros predominating in one area and Japanese restaurants in another. The area is most famous for the Palais Garnier opera house and glamorous department stores.
