I think overall I have a good impression of this typicall French bistro. Nicelly decorated with tasty dishes ( cassoulet, escargots, etc) a bit overpriced though, around 60 euros per person for the quolity of food. Service was very good , polite staff.

Lovely friendly service, accommodating of my halting awkward French on the phone when making a reservation and personable on our arrival - and the food matched the superlative service! We had traditional French cuisine with a lovely selection of wine, delicious duck, foie gras! Cozy atmosphere and then a short stroll after dinner to view the Eiffel Tower with the... More

Having watched this bistro evolve from a somewhat dingy affair in the 1980s to what it is today has been a pleasure and a tribute to the Boudin family. We try to eat there every time we are in Paris and have never been disappointed with the food with its accent on the South-West. "Oeufs facon meurettes" has the kind... More

Re-reading my early review of Fontaine de Mars, subsequently tweaked once or twice, it does not do the restaurant justice. This is not exciting food, but it is very good food, at a restaurant we have returned to again and again since the beginning of the Diary. It is very well managed, consistent, dependable and increasingly French, notwithstanding the Obama’s... More

Near impossible to find a dish that is not overly greasy on the menu. The food doesn't taste bad, but it's heavy and without imagination. And the bill too is hefty!

This gorgeous French bistro has been around forever and is consistent all year round. This was my fourth visit this year. It is very well priced with a huge menu offering a wide selection. One of the highlights is the sliced saucisson they bring as soon as you sit down - amazing & perfect with the typical crunchy French bread.... More

La Fontaine de Mars is one of the oldest traditional brasseries in Paris and since 1908, it has welcomed both amateurs and connoisseurs of French southwestern cuisine. Even President Obama has savored a meal here in 2009. 3 families have run the restaurant since its creation. Today, the Boudon family has kept the authentic charm of this old brasserie and... More

I am a Parisian and have eaten at Fontaine de Mars for the past 20 years. If you seek excellent traditional cuisine in a warm atmosphere, Fontaine de Mars is the place! The cuisine is very traditional and superbly cooked, notably the best Confit de Canard in Paris, the staff is first class. The place is not cheap, count c.60... More
