Great food, amusing staff, decent prices, and not as crowded as many restaurants. The pot-au-feu was very popular, as were the fish dishes. For dessert, go for the roasted pear: Yum!

Been there 2 hours ago, although completely book I was really disappointed 'cause food is average, nothing special, but the prices are high: main course is 22€ if not taken together with entree&desert. Chef is obviously playing with the food but not on a good way.

We were really excited to eat here since it was recommended in various places but I have to say that if you skip it, you will be fine. The staff are very friendly, and it is a small and cozy place, but the food is mediocre. The lobster soup is surely interesting with the additional of the chocolate that you... More

We were taken to this restaurant by my cousins who live in Paris. We were in Paris for just one night as transited the city on our way to Italy. We were made welcome and given a circular table in the middle of the restaurant - we were a group of five. For starters my wife and I both had... More

You need to make reservation in advance for your lunch and dinner. Very busy small restaurant with about 10-12 tables. Soup is excellent as well as desert. A big wine selection as the restaurant has wine celler nearby the restaurant. Waiter can speak fair english but you may understand a simple french as there is no english menu.

Although the decor is a bit faded, the food and ambiance were first class, as was the welcome. Aimed primarily at locals rather than being a tourist trap, which made me appreciate it even more. Will certainly return when the opportunity arises.

The cuisine is ok but the value for money is not there. I think you can find much better in that area. The location is quite good. However the service is awful, the owner rude and arrogant. If you are a tourist, be prepared to be treated like cattle.

We tried the daily lunch with my sister, it includes a soup, a main plate, a glass of red/white wine and coffe. The price was 15 euros!! I think it's impossible to find any other place for this price and QUALITY. The food and the service was very good. (And i loved the toillet as well. You can dry your... More

My girlfriend and me have looked for a nice authentic bistro' where to eat in Paris and we decided to go to L'Avant Gout. Reviews about this place are mixed but our experience overall has been really good. We have been really impressed by really good quality food, attentive service and loads of attention from the woman that runs this... More

Staying in Place d'Italie / Quartier Asiatique

Neighborhood Profile
Place d'Italie / Quartier Asiatique
Far off the beaten path, this part of Paris is a forgotten gem worth exploring. Avenue d’Ivry houses Europe's largest Chinatown with great Asian supermarkets and shops, and a thrilling atmosphere around Chinese New Year. Place d’Italie impresses onlookers as soon as they set their eyes on it. Not far, around La Butte aux Cailles, the streets suddenly imitate provincial France and you’ll feel like you’ve been transported. The beauty of these streets lies in their surprises around every twist and turn.
