Was excited to try this out since restaurant is always highly rated by critics and bloggers. The restaurant itself looks like a time capsule -- it is so charmingly classic. It might look "run-down" though to the uninitiated. :) Dinner service was a little slow but the food was remarkable! Best duck confit I have had. The beef bourg was... More

First time we were here. According to some blogs on of the top brasseries in Paris and I must say it was a very nice first encounter. Typical French interior, small tables, but very friendly staff. The menu card was rather focused on meat but there still were some alternative dishes. I can image that if you go for a... More

The New York Times said Josephine serves the best Boeuf Bourgignon in Paris (which would almost mean the world) and they are not wrong. It's so good that you are tempted to pass over the other amazing items on the menu, particularly the outstanding duck confit and the pork dishes. Everything is scrumptious. They offer wines in all price ranges... More

Went her for Friday lunch. It's important to book well in advance, the restaurant was full only 30 minutes after opening. Very good traditional kitchen, and a wine list including anything you could wish for. I had a light starter with lovely grilled artichokes, a superb pigeon with pastry for main course (see picture) and a pineapple dessert. Seemed like... More

The restaurant is an old school institution that serves solid and very traditional French food. The Ambiance is a bit dated and worn so you won't get That chic or warmth of a newer bistro. On the other hand I would say that it may have for some (including me) a dilapidated charm if you have a sense of nostalgia.... More

Make reservation for when they open; difficult as you must call or fax; no reservations thorough La Forchette or online. Fab beef bourgogne served on egg noodles and amazing ris de veau. We always order their version of Mille Feuille, which is made to order and the very best around. Evereytime in Paris, we try to eat there once &... More

We nearly ate ourselves into an early grave after booking lunch at Josephine Chez Dumonet. The soufflés were the biggest I've ever seen! Good food, good wine, excellent service, very helpful with the parts of the menu we didn't understand. I will be back next time I'm in Paris.

We asked our friends for 1 night in a traditional Parisian restaurant. Not trendy, not nouveau but "classic".. This is how we ended up at Chez Dumonet. The decor is nothing special and the service was slow. The menu is somewhat limited but features classic French dishes - pâté, chateaubriand, beef bourguignon etc. We took our waiter's suggestion and preordered... More

Chez Josephine Dumonet is truly a quintessential Parisian bistro with soft yellow and off white decor and beautifully etched glass windows. The food is outstanding, probably one of my favorite Paris Bistro's. we lived in Paris for 3 years so we had the opportunity to visit quite a few! You must have reservations. A testament I think, to just how... More

Having read the reviews on Trip Advisor, I approached our dinner at Josephine with some trepidation. Both the reviewers who said it was wonderful, and those who said it was horrible, seemed credible to me. So when we arrived to an empty restaurant (with reservations) and we were given the table across from the bathroom with a view of the... More

Neighborhood Profile
Saint-Germain-des-Pres
In Saint-Germain-des-Prés, life is effortlessly chic and all things are beautiful. The main boulevard is dotted with famed terraced cafés, haut-couture shops, ivy-covered railings and fine-dining restaurants. Antique dealers and art galleries surround the fine art school and small museums hide in unassuming squares. The neighborhood’s namesake church is the oldest in Paris and is the backdrop for talented musicians every weekend. The Luxembourg Gardens house the national senate, splendid lawns and flourishing flower beds. Famous faces and bourgeois Parisians frequent Saint Germain accompanied by the students of Rue Saint Guillaume and Rue des Saints-Pères. This is a neighborhood where afternoon people-watching from a café or playing cards in a brasserie are a key part of the daily fabric.
