MICHELIN Guide's Point of View

Belhara is a site that is famous for its superb waves on the Basque coast - and this is the chef's nod to his origins. It is a tough call to summarise ...

We wanted to find some authentic French cooking and we found it at Bistrot Belhara. To be honest, there were not so many dinner menu choices and the humorous waiter steered us to what he thought we would like, so we gave up trying to...choose and just went with it! However, our initial nervousness was unfounded and we really enjoyed the freshly cooked dishes, in particular the mint soufle which was delicious, atmosphere friendly and the service was great.More

We looked the restaurant up on trip adviser and thought it had a good rating but were extremely disappointed. I would not recommend the food here. There are much better restaurants all over Paris. It was well over priced with tiny portions and the food...was only average at best.More

Excellent food by a very talended chef, super friendly service, a very pleasant evening! They deliver more than you can expect in this small restaurant, with food of amazing quality. I would have one request for them: Do not change! This is simply perfect.

Took my daughter here for her 13th birthday, but likely best for a couple or a small group of friends who like to converse quietly with dinner. But even my young teen could appreciate the high quality classic French cuisine. Heads above your typical tourist...fare. Cozy dinning space with around 10 tables I believe. We shared their large seafood specialty - so good! Wonderful soufflé for dessert.More

While this small bistro (which seats just 32 people) is getting a reputation for excellence in travel publications, it still seems to be a largely local eatery. This was my second visit and I was not disappointed. The creamy corn chowder was probably the single...tastiest thing I ate during my week in Paris (not withstanding the hot chocolate at Angelina's, but who can compete with that?). The braised veal was melt in your mouth tender, and the passion fruit souffle was tart and creamy smooth. My dining companions had similarly excellent meals. Frederic, who is the head waiter, was great fun and provided excellent service and a slow, well paced meal. The amuse bouche at the beginning of the meal and complimentary Madeline cookies at the end were also fantastic. And the wine that Frederic recommended for dinner (as we requested a sweeter wine) was perfect and priced nicely. I will always visit Bistro Belhara when in Paris!More

This restaurant is one block away from the bustling Rue Cler so we had missed it in our many walks in the neighborhood. Our waiter was helpful (and funny) and the food was wonderful. The veal was outstanding--probably the best I've ever had. A lovely...way to end out trip to Paris. We would definitely come back!More

This restaurant was one of the highlights of our trip. The restaurant is small, maybe 12 tables. The service and meal were excellent. We listened to all the waiter’s recommendations and ordered things we normally wouldn’t (pea soup and veal) and it was all outstanding!...The wine recommendation was perfect to!More

Beloved by Americans. It looks like French are not attracted for unknown reason...or maybe the prices! The starters were incredible, like the encornets, chipirons and smoked ham, The veal mijoté was to die for. Excellent wine list. Very nice upgraded bistro deco and surprising waiter.

We were lucky to be introduced to Basque cuisine on our trip to Paris. Belhara is a great find. We were there for lunch and everything was wonderful! We order off the Specials menu. Appetizer - asparagus soup, chicken risotto and fish. Dessert was also...heavenly. Highly recommended as a lunch stop as you check out Rue Cler!More

Five years ago, we loved the atmosphere and the food quality in this bistro. And now? Big disappointment. Hectic service, superficial friendliness with permanently repeated mechanical jokes. The velouté was acceptable, the foie gras had a strange brittle consistency with a light-orange color. We were...not sure what kind of product this was. The lamb shoulder was tender, good sauce but for three hungry eaters not quite satisfying. The soufflé was not properly cooked and imploded within a minute after it was served. We had the impression that we had to eat faster such that the table could be allocated anew. High efficiency, high throughput, but this bistro has lost its soul.More

I agree; as it is a casual bistro, there is no dress code. Nevertheless, diners in France do make a bit of an effort when going to a restaurant, even when dressed casually. Shorts, flip-flops and similar are a guarantee... More
