First night in Paris, we checked into our hotel (Novotel Montparnasse) quite late into the evening. Approximately 5 minute walking from our hotel, we spotted this beautifully decorated, both outside and inside, and illuminated cafe restaurant. As soon as we walked in, we knew it's...a family / chef owned cafe - greeted by the friendly young staff, my wife ordered crispy duck leg and I ordered salmon. The chef then came out warmly reeted us personally, and insisted my wife trying the house red. The food was fantastic, ingredients were fresh, and cooked at the right way. Aged and yet elegant interior, which added to our whole dining experience. The chef decided not to charge for the wines, though we tipped as a way of returning his hospitality. He also showed us the guest book, and his cafe was frequented by known figures, one of which happened to be New Zealand's ex Prime Minister and now Auckland mayor Phil Goff! Beautiful night, beautiful food and beautiful people! Crespo & SarahMore

We went to this restaurant on our last night in Paris. It was also my birthday. We walked into a small, cozy space with slight trepidation. The next moment, we were greeted by the chef and his staff. From that moment on, we experienced the...most wonderful food, service, and warmth that we could ever imagine. The food was spectacular. I had the scallops in a cream sauce that I can only describe as heavenly. My husband had a wonderful steak with another amazing sauce. We were too full for dessert, then they brought out a crumble cake with caramel sauce. All I can say is that we managed to make room!! Overall, this restaurant was our favorite of our 6 days in Paris. It is slightly out of the way, but definitely worth finding! I even got the warmest birthday hugs from the staff!!More

This restaurant and generous owner literally saved our family trip to Paris. Many of the restaurants close to our hotel that we planned on visiting were either closed (on late summer holiday) or being remodeled. We fortunately came across this restaurant down the street from...our Novatel and met the super friendly owner, Olivier, and made a reservation for later in the week. Turns out we ate there 3 of the 4 remaining nights we had in Paris. Everything served was super delicious and what we sought to experience in French cuisine and more! Even our young kids enjoyed it! Very cozy, inviting, comfortable, and quiet surroundings. Handwritten menu in English changes daily and we ate it all! Escargot, anchovy salad, warm mushroom salad, broccoli salad, vegetable soup, chicken in mushroom sauce, crispy duck, scallops in sauce, poached salmon, all with a side serving of french green beans and mashed potato. Their sauces are out of this world! Save room for dessert -- creme brulee, nougat ice cream with raspberry sauce, cheesecake with raspberry sauce. Olivier, many thanks for your food and friendship. We feel blessed to have discovered your fine establishment and experience real, humble French cooking.More

This place was recommended to me by a friend. First of all, the goat cheese salad was amazing. And I had sea bass for dinner which was also great. It was a quiet place and really nice dinner for our last night in Paris. Also,...they added a nice bottle of wine to our meal. How nice is that?More

Paris is blessed with many good, even excellent, restaurants. For me, what sets this place apart is that it’s a cozy, comfortable, simple neighborhood place. It’s not near any big sites, not crowded, not haute cuisine, no chic clientele. This might not be what you’re...looking for in Paris, but it’s my favorite kind of Parisian restaurant, unpretentious it good and affordable—-even at dinner. It’s easy enough to get a great value lunch in Paris, not so much dinner. The staff are always cordial, the food is fresh authentic homey French cuisine at very good prices. Appetizers 8-12 euro, mains 14-22, approximately. They don’t stop the baguettes after one basket and blessedly serve butter with it. And you can eat an early dinner here—very handy if you have an early morning flight out of CDG or are jet lagged from flying over. English menu available (hand written) and staff speak English, though more complicated questions or requests may send the charming owner out.More

We followed the recommendation of an American flight attendant who has been frequenting this establishment for years. We were so happy we went a bit off the beaten path to do it, it was our best meal in Paris! At first glance there is nothing...fancy or trendy about the place... it is on a quiet street and the inside looks like it was updated maybe 15 years ago. There are no bow ties or snooty waiters, but the place just has the aura of authentic Paris. It is not some place you will see in a luxury magazine, but after we finished the meal it was clear there were no frills besides the complex flavors the chef pours into each dish. The owner greeted us warmly in smooth English and the staff brought the hand-written menus, which held no descriptions requiring a French dictionary or culinary degree, only the basics like "Crispy Duck" or "Veal Liver." We were offered wine (white or red), and tried both. Our group tried everything from the goat cheese salad (simple but delicious with a hint of mustard in the dressing), to the duck breast (perfectly cooked), to the steak (juicy with a flavorful peppercorn sauce), with the biggest hit being the scallops. My wife raved about them, cooked to perfection with a hint of fresh dill and some of the best scallops she has ever had in her life. The desserts were also satisfying and sharable. Overall the cost of the meal was less than half the price of a similar meal at a comparable restaurant several nights later. If you go in expecting to drop hundreds of Euros and get a Michelin experience, you will be disappointed. If you want to taste memorable French food in a comfortable and friendly environment for an unbeatable price... Oliver's place is worth a try!More

From a welcome greeting at the entrance, to the cozy atmosphere inside, to the variety of authentic French cuisine, every visit has been a great one. The scallops are devine and probably my favorite. Sea bass, crispy duck are also hard to pass up. The...bread and even butter are really good but make sure you save room for the cheesecake with berries sauce!More

This place is so amazing! The creme sauce on the scallops is the most scrumptious thing you will EVER taste. The staff is amazing and so courteous. I highly recommend this place!
