The waiters were dismissive and rude, they appeared annoyed that we changed seating and didn't serve us any popcorn like they did for everyone else. I ordered the "limonade/ citronnade pressé" so I was expecting a freshly squeezed refreshing lemon drink or at least a good quality artisan lemonade- and the price would have indicated that it should have been... Bad coffee, bad service and despite advertising breakfast on the window.... We were told to go to the bakery for a croissant and bring it back. The location is great and the outside seating is nice (albeit somewhat crammed in) but that's the same as most of the other cafes on rue des abbesses. Would I come back? No, not... More

Solid choice if you just want a quick drink. It is very popular with locals, it can be hard to get a seat outside. Hits the spot, not fine dining, but an honest cafe/bar.

We decided to stop here for lunch during our tour on foot of Montmartre. The service was good and the food tasty. It bustles on a Saturday, but we weren't looking for a quiet spot. The Croque Madame and Monsieur were both equally delicious.

This is a great little cafe with tasteful and quiet music that creates a calm, warm atmosphere. We had tea and coffee in the morning, both were good. It's great to sit back, listen to the music and watch the city go by through the window.

We normally frequent a cafe about 50m away and are very happy with it so I don't know why we decided to take our late night coffee at Le Saint Jean but we ended up regretting it. I ordered a double espresso and was given a horrible cup of filter coffee. The waiter seemed angry with everyone and was banging... More

We visited on the last night of our trip tonight, amazing little jazz band, absolutely stunning food cooked beautifully and arriving promptly at a fraction of inner city price and a truly beautiful atmosphere. Was not expecting a great deal for the reasonable price but was massively surprised. Will without a doubt return again when I come back to beautiful... More

Staying in Montmartre

Neighborhood Profile
Montmartre is a bustling mix of cultures, colors, and styles which changes from one street to another. Ride the funicular (or, for a real workout, climb the steps) to the sublime Sacré-Coeur (Basilica of the Sacred Heart) with its inspiring view of the city. The church is surrounded by provincial streets and piano bars where tourists, artists, and street entertainers thrive. At the foot of the hill, Boulevard de Clichy features shops not intended for young audiences, while residences are scattered to the north and east. The diverse population includes a large part from the Arab-speaking world, Africa, and Turkey. It’s a corner of Paris full of life and dynamism with charms that can’t be found anywhere else.
