Loud pop music is not usually to my taste but this sit-on - high- stools- at the bar French Tapas place was so enjoyable, I forgave it.In fact, it was part of the atmosphere, buzzing and upbeat.I'm not usually a tapas fan (outside Spain) as...it seems a rip off elsewhere, tiny portions of not very tasty and wildly over priced food.In Scotland, Tapas places are dire for those reasons. In this place, endess varieties of tapas versions of French food, described in hanging bits of paper from the ceiling, most of it all sounding good.Gorgeous bread and big bowl of good butter served the minute we took a seat and ordered. I demolished so much of that bread - super tasty stuff, unusual colour.Nutty taste. Then Oxtail stew with potato mousse (first class); 4 tasty foie gras filled filo pastries; asparagus ravioli in a cream sauce. If only this was the quality of food served in more restaurants! All washed down with decent wine.Very friendly, upbeat service. Tapas ranged from 6 to 10 euros so cost does mount up when it's all so good and you want to keep ordering, but all in, a really great experience. Will make for this place on our next visit - also a seafood version next door. Get there early as it only seats (at the bar) around 15 people max.More

The L'Avant Comptoir concept is something from a dream. Small, intimate, cool wine bar that serves killer wines, bites and has slabs of butter everywhere for you to slather up the incredible bread they serve. Sign me up! We loved every visit we made (I...think the total was 4 times in 2 days) while staying in Paris. The staff highlighted by Sylvain and Oscar (DJ Oscar!) picked out amazing wines, food and music. This is the type of joint I wish we had in NYC, and is one that you will want to return day after day! Cheers L'Avant Comptoir!More

This has got to be, our favorite restaurant during our visit in Paris. It's nice and casual, the staff are just superbly friendly and nice, and their tapas were delicious. We went with all seafood with the exception of a couple of dishes (see our...photos). We dined in at the Seafood location, but you can go next door and order beef and they will deliver at your table. Great service. This place gets packed and we were here around 7pm and it was full with lines out the door. However, the wait is worth it. PS - menu is located at the ceiling. Just look up :) Cheers!More

Had a lovely lunch catching up with an old friend. We didn’t have stools but we had a good spot at the counter. The food is delicious and well prepared. Don’t miss the bread and the enormous slab of butter on the counter- it’s yummy....There is no wine list, but the server is happy to recommend something based on what you like- we were very pleased with his suggestion. It’s a small place and it for sure gets crowded so you have to be patient. I wouldn’t recommend going if you’re in a rush. But the service is fine. I’ve read some of the other reviews and it’s unfortunate people had a bad experience. The person working behind the counter today spoke French, Italian, English. I noticed no difference in the service provided based on the language the customers were speaking.More

I had read a few poor reviews of this tapas bar and I can't understand their reviews after eating here. I suppose that some American diners, and those used to American dining experiences, mistake French politeness and the custom of not rushing customers as rudeness...and being ignored. When you travel, look up the customs and know what to expect. We found the staff here, who spoke English, to be professional, knowledgeable, and friendly. The tapas plates were delicious and we were given perfect pairings of wine from the staff. It is a bit crowded in the space due to the well deserved popularity of L'Avant Comptoir, but we still received great service and enjoyed our experience. This is a top-notch tapas bar and well worth the visit!More

Best Tapas with French twist in Paris... Terrific friendly service as well. You get exactly what you want to eat without attitude. Terrific wine bar & variety on the tapas menu. The seafood place next door also delicious. One if the go to spots in...Paris. Evenings are very crowded so check out lunchtime.More

Get there midweek before or after the lunch rush, grab a stool and settle in. Just ask the bar/waitress for wine recommendations if you are unsure along with the small plates on offer. The oysters are fresh, the squid with chorizo and scallops are amazing...and its great value. If you fancy some meat dishes pop next door (sister restaurant) and order/pay and they will bring it in piping hot. I had the roast belly of pork and hamburger with foie gras. Good fun, buzzing little place with friendly staff. Recommended!More

Awful service. After 30mn wait, we reminded the waitress about our order, they forgot to bring it and then they refused to expedite it despite us needing to leave. They said we will have to wait another 20-30mn. Our order was 6 oysters, it normally...takes less than 2mn to open 6 oysters... we had to leave without eating anything. They were not even sorry. So arrogant.More

The other answers are correct. You could eat your fill, but might not have a stool. Unless you love crowds (which can be fun) go off hours (and before 7 pm). Expect to pay about Euro 35 for a satisfying appetizer.
