It is a very quaint setting, and our server was excellent. The food was mixed. The chicken was solid, but the rabbit was dry. Overall, we enjoyed the experience, and it was a very nice lunch. I would not go here if you are looking for a great meal.

Four of us dined here the evening of 26 June after the place we wanted to go to around the corner was closed. All the outdoor tables were taken so we were pointed to and showed ourselves upstairs. This had very nice decor and really gave the impression that we were in for a lovely treat. Oh how wrong I... More

We visited this place as a family. We enjoyed the food but in all, it was a weird experience. If I hadn't been here because of a friend and was curious, I might not have stayed to eat. We sat for a really long time before we were even served. Then, one of us went in to order and were... More

Stopped in for a few drinks with the family and proved to be a great decision. Really nice atmosphere and I recommend sitting outside. The staff were perfect, really enjoyed themselves. Made you feel at home.

We happened upon the Au Vieux Paris d'Arcole on a rainy day between Notre Dame Cathedral (just around a corner or two) and our next stop, desperate for a bit to eat and too tired to soldier on to the place recommended by our hotel. It was a treat! Very nice food and, unlike most places in that area, we... More

Ok, LOTS of charm, the building dates to 1512- but....... I know good food and this place is awful. We have been in Paris 5 days and not Had a bad meal (takeout, fancy, street food, even the train station) I won't even start with the weird waiter. Our "six vegetable soup" tasted like green water. The scallop appetizer was supposed to... More

Great atmosphere and good solid French food. Host Francisco is most accommodating. The owner George along with his wife are never far from the kitchen Real friendly place with great food and ambiance

We went on a recommendation but were blown away when we got out of our cab. We were welcomed warmly and given a great table upstairs. Window opened smelling the wisteria, drink great wine while listening to the bells of Notre Dame....heavenly. The service was great, and the food was French and decadent.

We accidentally stumbled upon this place after visiting Notre Dame Cathedral. It looks cute and humble from the outside, but the inside (at least the upstairs where we were seated) just blew us away! It absolutely fit my image of some French setting from the 18th or 19th century. Red velvet everywhere with gaudy trim. Utensils and china with incredible... More

We were drawn to this exquisite restaurant by the beautiful wisteria covering the building. We discovered this treasure, located one block from Notre Dame and immediately entered the front door. Beautiful accoutrements from another century. Former home of a Notre Dame priest from another time. Excellent service and wonderful menu. We hope to return again and again.

Description
Au Vieux Paris restaurant in the very heart of Paris, on the Ile de la Cite not two steps from Notre Dame, has history and gastronomy in its favour. Patrons Odette and Georges bring their seasonal ingredients each week from the finest organic farms in the Aveyron in southern France to create dishes like warm foie gras, duck breast a lorange, and other classics. The restaurant is sited in an Canons residence constructed in 1512 and the dcor brilliantly over the top reflects history in every detail, the heavily figured scarlet wallpaper and tented ceilings, the antique prints, the exposed stonework and rich draperies. Au Vieux Paris is terribly romantic - youll even have to stroll by the Seine to get home.

Staying in Ile de la Cite / Ile Saint-Louis

Neighborhood Profile
Ile de la Cite / Ile Saint-Louis
Two islands sit in the middle of the Seine at the very heart of Paris. The more majestic one, Ile de la Cité, sparkles with history. This is the birthplace of Paris, the home of the Gothic Sainte-Chapelle, and the site of the prison where Marie Antoinette was held before her execution. Tourists flock to see the iconic Notre Dame and the beautiful bridges that straddle the Seine. Ile Saint-Louis, the more provincial island, welcomes you with cozy traditional eateries, small boutiques, and what some people say is the best ice cream in the city. This is essential Paris from its very beginnings to its modern appeal.
