Very good but the best in the world? I agree the ice cream is very good but I think they are now over selling. After leaving Paris, we found other places that had a much wider selection and tasted as good or better for much less than Berthillon. The kids had ice cream almost every day of our trip so... More

This ice cream was good, not great or special. It was very soft and melted to fast as well. This place has been written about in several travel books and blogs so I didn't want to miss it.

We stumbled across this cafe having a walk through St Louis Island and it was the best find of our holiday. We were seated in their salon de thé, and ordered the most tasty french desserts I've ever eaten. Tarte tatin, Pistachio macaroons and raspberry sorbet. The service was exceptional, and the waiting staff are very friendly and helpful.

We are staying just down the street, so I get to experience Les Glaces de Berthillon on almost a daily basis. I have yet to be disappointed in any parfum (flavor). The sorbets are particularly fruity and delicious. Cerise (cherry) is my favorite. It's kind of like eating puréed iced cherries. Yum! The lines are long for a good reason.

Best part of my visit to Notre Dame. Lovely romantic interior. Good service. Lovely ice cream, make sure you have cream and sauce on top.

Skip the long lines at the ice cream counter and grab a seat in the tiny restaurant next door. If you hit it right, you can be seated in moments and enjoy both the ice creams AND a nice menu of cakes and galettes -- the tarte tatin is delicious -- I just wish they would serve it warm!

We Enjoyed the delicious ice cream at Berthillon! The small portions and price are worth the wait. The lemon verbena mint was incredible! Maybe you will find shorter lines at other sights on the island but we wanted to go to the headquarters. We have traveled all of Italy and found Berthillon delicious but not our favorite.

There's not a lot to say about Berthillon's, other than that there are no finer ice-creams or sorbets to be had anywhere that I'm aware of! The establishment on the Ile Saint Louis often has lines well out the door, but - whether to sit-down or take away, it's well worth the wait! While there are other locations that sell... More

Gorgeous architecture, funky atmosphere and the best sorbets and ice creams in Paris. I had melon, mango and chocolate. The fruit sorbets are very tasty and refreshing, it feels as if one was eating the actual fruit. I HIGHLY recommend this place, it is marvellous !

I had the vanilla ice cream (not my usual) and it was outstanding. Ordered a coffee ice cream as soon as I finished it - portions are small. The coffee was strong for my taste. Just reading the salted caramel is fabulous and also just read we paid much more to eat at a table - sometimes you just need... More

Staying in Ile de la Cite / Ile Saint-Louis

Neighborhood Profile
Ile de la Cite / Ile Saint-Louis
Two islands sit in the middle of the Seine at the very heart of Paris. The more majestic one, Ile de la Cité, sparkles with history. This is the birthplace of Paris, the home of the Gothic Sainte-Chapelle, and the site of the prison where Marie Antoinette was held before her execution. Tourists flock to see the iconic Notre Dame and the beautiful bridges that straddle the Seine. Ile Saint-Louis, the more provincial island, welcomes you with cozy traditional eateries, small boutiques, and what some people say is the best ice cream in the city. This is essential Paris from its very beginnings to its modern appeal.
