We ate as a couple here, which was just across the road from our hotel. The restaurant is small and intimate, and was well laid out for social distancing. The chef cooked the food in the middle of the restaurant and was quite a character;...the waitress was also very good. The food was superb local produce and very reasonably priced. Would highly recommend this place, but, particularly at the moment, must booked. We saw many people being turned away as they were fully booked when we went.More

Excellent! One of those finds that makes a holiday! Excellent food, great service, small and intimate. The benefit of a small menu is you only have a choice of two starters, mains and desserts - so my wife and I got to try everything! We...had the black pudding crumble and shellfish starters - the black pudding was amazing! The three meat casserole and the sea bass were both delicious. Highly recommend to Foodies.More

You can watch the friendly chef prepare your meal from your table at this cozy restaurant. The menu changes daily based on the freshest local ingredients available. Every detail of our starters, main dishes and dessert was prepared with great care. All delicious and beautifully...presented. In our view, the star of the evening was the apple crumble. Marvelous.More

L'ilot is a wonderful restaurant not far from the Chateau d'Amboise. It is very friendly and appears to be family-run. Food was delicious, especially the seafood. Good value, too.

An otherwise nice evening was ruined by the deception of the maitre’d/waiter, who insisted that our bill did not include a service charge. We were surprised since that was contrary to our understanding, but we left a generous tip because we had a delicious and...enjoyable dinner. Upon returning to our lodging we learned that French law requires restaurant bills to include a 15% service charge. Our lack of knowledge is on us, but no reputable restaurant should employ staff who misrepresent the law and take advantage of visitors.More

We had previously visited Restaurant L'Ilot a few years ago and decided to return as our Hotel ( Le Clos D'amboise ) is located in the same road more or less opposite, Once again we found fine dining presented from a diverse menu by wonderful...staff with personality. This was without doubt our favourite restaurant during the whole of our fortnights visit to the Loire Valley. A very special place in a central location. Best to book ahead as it is usually very busy. Would certainly recommend for lovers of fine dining served in an atmospheric setting.More

This was a truly memorable meal. The people are just so friendly, and could not do enough for us. The food was fabulous, and they had a great choice of wines and other drinks, all reasonably priced. This has been our best dinner in France...and I'd recommend the restaurant for any special occasion. Fabulous, thanks for a great evening!More

My wife and I arrived in Amboise from Australia after 31 hours travelling. A friend recommended that we eat there. This we did jet lagged and tired. The best meal was served with good wine and French hospitality. Beef Bougnion for dinner was sensational. Great...service and best of all we are staying 50 metres from Lilot! Excellent restaurant with good prices.More

We heeded the advice from earlier reviewers and so had booked our table before leaving the UK. Were we glad! During the evening as we progressed through the meal we felt so sorry for those who were being turned away. The restaurant is small, intimate...as they say, where you can see the cooking in progress but, importantly, there is space between the tables. The staff are welcoming, incredibly friendly and so helpful taking the time to explain in detail every dish on the chalkboard menu. We chose very much a fish orientated meal and each item was perfect. The intensity of flavour was remarkable or 'lovely-jubbly' as our English speaking server responded when we praised the dishes. So make sure you have plenty of bread to wipe up that last drop of delicious sauce or jus.More
