A week ago my friend and I spent a night in the bustling town of Saint Malo intra murros and when we asked the hotel for restaurant recommendations they gave us a few names. I don't think we could have been luckier in our choice....Le bistro de Jean exceeded our expectations. The food was spot on.... I loved my "thon mi cuit" and the puddings were scrumptious. I would give the food 10/10 but what also scored highly was the atmosphere. The man (I don't know if that was Jean) was fun, kind and honest. it isn't often in a restaurant that the waiter tells you that a pichet of 50cl is too much for one person .... This was for my friend :) and he was right... Also if you were worried about COVID safety measures this was the first restaurant I went to in France which observed the rules and used only every other table which meant we felt really safe. I am recommending this restaurant without any hesitation.....To top it all it wasn't expensive! As I said ... a gem on many levels....More

Opened at 7.15pm for dinner, started filling up reasonably quickly, great service to start with , and continued all the way through the meal. Had the Moules to start with, but they were not in there shell, they had been peeled and put into a...lovely sauce with seasoning etc in a little oblong tin, the flavour was incredible. My friend had the "T" bone of veal, which he loved and I had the lamb shank, which was large, sumptuous and very filling, some green beens, a few mushrooms and a side of roast potatoes. Both desserts were extremely rich and chocolatey and was rounded of with a 12 year old Calvados, extremely wonderful meal!! Just over 50 euros each including a glass of fine red wine and a satisfying beer. Wonderful experience and would definitely go back again !!More

We had such a delicious meal in this wonderful restaurant. We hadn't booked but we were lucky enough to get a table. Everyone was so friendly and the meal was simply delicious. We absolutely loved it there. Highly recommended.

I booked for 21 golfers to eat at Le Bistro de Jean. We had the whole place to ourselves so the atmosphere was excellent. Claudine the owner had just one very capable and pleasant lad in the restaurant to assist her, but tat was all...she needed, they both took the task in their stride. The excellent wines flowed without delay and the fantastic menu that I personally chose alongside Claudine, following her suggestions, lived up to our expectations. In fact everyone had said that it was the best meal, wine list and ambience we had experienced in our 20+ years of annual golf trips together. Thank you Claudine and your superb team Mark EnglandMore

We recently visited St. Malo for the weekend with friends and I really wanted to return to this restaurant as we had not been for years. I also wanted my friends to experience one of the better restaurants within the intra muros. July can be...very busy so I called a week in advance, spoke to the lady who runs the restaurant and made a reservation. See you on Saturday she said. As far as I was concerned this was a firm booking, so I did not follow up again. We turned up just before our reserved time on the day to be told that they had no reservation. The lady asked who I had spoken to and was rather surprised when I said it was her. She was apologetic to a point and it was all rather embarrassing. Finding a solid alternative at that time was not easy but Le Cambusier squeezed us in and we had a lovely meal, albeit it was not what we really wanted.More

In all good place, cosy little dining room nicely decorated and everything you got on your plate is yummy. On two visits we tried sea bass and cod fish and also a lamb leg (souris d'agneu) - the latter was a huge portion. My only...reproach is the service. Older women and two young girls operating as waitresses were nice and somewhat dedicated, but one had the impression they were in a state of panic especially when the room started to fill up. They would forget to bring you bread or water or another glass of wine and you have to remind them about that once or even twice. Maybe for the girls (both the teens) it was the first season? And also it meant waiting. Expect to wait around 15 minutes after you're seated and before you place your order. In the evening I don't mind waiting and can afford even 2 hours for a meal, but for others it can become a problem. But in all it was a pleasant experience and delicious cooking, and a place to return next time in Saint-Malo.More

Sorry, you'll have to check with bistro. I've never been in November so don't know if they're open. They don't open lunchtime I'm pretty sure. I don't book myself - I just turn up when they first open: 7 to 7:30pm.
