We have been to La Kaiku many years ago. Than it was a boisterous happy street restaurant serving simple and good seafood. We retained a fond memory from our visit. So I was glad to find that La Kaiku was awarded a Michelin star and was eager to eat there again. Alas we were disappointed. The restaurant moved inside and... More

I had the merlu (hake) for lunch menu, with rice and a frothy paella-like sauce. It was delicious. The entrée with tomato and mozarella was also very good. The dessert with banana and chocolate is also nice, but with a bit too much chocolate for me. My husband had the other options in the menu and he was also completely... More

We saw this place in one of the guide books as a good stop if in San Jean de Luz..... What an understatement, this little seaside town nestling in the bottom corner of France Basque region is really a beautiful spot. The bustling seaside town had many cafes and bars all doing a roaring trade, which we walked past to... More

A small focused menu with everything of the best quality and presentation. A historic building in the streets of the old town and just a few steps from the promenade. Deservedly popular with booking in advance strongly recommended. Very enjoyable relaxing dinner with good, friendly, helpful service.

When in St jean last fall, we looked for a variety of cuisine and settings. Our hosts at Parc Victoria suggested le Kaiku and we found it lived up to its reputation. The dining area is quite modern but set into an cave-like interior that works well. The menu options were generous and we opted for a la carte selections.... More

The setting and décor are a reflection of the quality of the food and . There is a fairly limited a la carte menu compared to some restaurants, but the choices are amazing. The three 'amuse bouche' was just an indication of the chef's use of flavours; whet the appetite they certainly did. Subtle was our first impression. My first... More

We were lucky to get a table as it was a Saturday night and we hadn't made a booking. The service was excellent and the amuse bouche bade well. From there however the food was solid but could have been so much better. The langoustines were overwhelmed by the lime in the sauce and the perfectly cooked pigeon was spoilt... More

Saint Jean de Luz is one of the most beautiful villages of the French Basque Country. If you are in the zone you must try this small and charmed restaurant located in the downtown. It is one of the places where the local and Basque product is cooked with the highest respect and care of the tradition. Hake, sea bream,... More
