We had lunch at this restaurant and it was an absolute pleasure. A friendly welcome was given to us by Madame Vidal. We were seated in this small but cosy restaurant and given the menus. We chose the menu 'Gourmand' with three courses: escargots de Bourgogne and Foie gras de Canard confit for starters. The snails were delicious and beautifully... More

A truly perfect meal - the service was excellent, wine recommendations were on point (particularly the Montbazillac), and each dish was inspired and perfectly executed. Truly, everything went right.

Tucked in a pedestrian street by the St Front Cathedral is this relatively small restaurant which we have known for years. The menu changes with the seasons, with chef Eric Vidal (one-star Michelin) creating surprises in flavour as the dishes are also a delight to the eyes. There are two rooms with tables, some in the street terrace and the... More

We found L'Essential while trying to find a special place for a dinner during our stay. We decided to go for a later lunch as the set menu was half the place during lunch €30, However even dinner prices are still very good value at €60. The atmosphere of the restaurant was great and we sat outside in their courtyard... More

We had lunch here and the food and service were simply outstanding. It is worth a visit to this town just to eat here. Well deserved one star and compared favorably with other Michelin star restaurants we visited. Owner/host delightful and could not be friendlier.

Read all the other 5* reviews and I'll just agree with them. I felt like a judge at a masterchef final... simply a wonderful place.

We stopped for lunch. It was worth it. The main course was delicious and the deserts amazing. The placing on the plate is a work of art Because it was lunch they offer a menu in a very reasonable price. Don't miss!

Have seen this restaurant many times but never ventured in - thankfully we finally did tonight - great to see a restaurant experimenting with food without loosing the essence of the food. I would go back again, if only to try the oysters which my friend had and were delicious

5 of us went for lunch in Nov 2015. It was fantastic. The food looked great and tasted even better. It was a wonderful experience, one which I will repeat. It was not expensive for what it is, the wine may have been a bit pricey but then don't choose an expensive bottle. The desert was the best I have... More
