As part of our food journey through Bordeaux, I selected Michel's for its amazing reviews on traditional bistro type food. The decor in real life is a little less bright than the photos suggest, but don't be discouraged by this. We had a terrific experience of incredible food and service. The waitress assisted with translating the French menu for us (along with a little Google Translate) so this was not really an issue. The food was sensational. The French onion soup was the show stopper of incredible flavour and so generous! We also had the steak and duck dishes - both sensational in flavour and so generous neither of us could finish the massive portions. The wine list was nicely balanced between more affordable and expensive wines, and good offerings by the glass. We also found the entire menu to be quite reasonable for what we got. I can definitely recommend them as a sure thing if you're looking for good French bistro food.

a nice little bistro with an active patio near the Place du Parlement. A great place to people watch. We stopped for drinks and appetizers and were quite happy with the food. We ordered the Camembert, croque monsieur, blanquette de veau and a bottle of wine (they had Bordeaux wine in 1.5 litre bottles which was too much, we had to settle for a wine from the Loire Valley which was fine (but seemly sacrilegious that non Bordeaux wine is available in the wine capital of the world). Fine was fine and the service was exceptionally patient and friendly as we deciphered the menu.

We were recommended to eat here for the French Onion Soup and my son enjoyed it very much. He followed with a duck burger which came with fries and he still had room for a desert, so cafe Gourmond it was! I had eaten earlier as finding gluten free options in Bordeaux was hard, but luckily this restaurant does have some gluten-free options - I just had fries washed down with a few Kir Royals. A lovely restaurant and fabulous service too - helpful staff. Next time I’m in Bordeaux I will return

Both the outside and the inside make you want to. The menu varies the flavors of French culture. However inside, a lot of hubbub. We had a « burger de canard », but the meal was dry and half cold, and it wasn't duck but duck rillettes. In addition, the waitress was in a hurry. The setting made you want but little disappointment about the dish.

Visited evening of 23rd August No idea how this possibly gets rated so highly . Our food was average to appalling! French onion soup was thin ,croque monsieur was a wet soggy mess inside which was rejected ,wish now I had taken photos. Waitress said I had to pay anyway because her boss would say so. Explained I was not going to pay for inedible food. She said you have to pay or have another one in its place ! Explained i didn't want to try again and wasn't going to pay for it. Shortly she came back to start round two !! Said she'd tried it and it was fine and that I obviously didn't understand that Bechemel sauce inside ( really ?) Would make it moist! I said its not moist is wet and soggy and not sufficiently toasted anyway. She repeated numerous times I would have to pay for it! Regarding my sons meal ,tasteless sea snails 3 out of 10 ,tuna tartar 5 out of 10 and razor clams 5 out of10. Wifes french onion soup 5 /10 Mine 0 out of 10. Customer service /attitude 2 out of 10 Only gave it as high as 2 because having told me yet again it was going on the bill my son negotiated a gin and tonic to compensate the fact it was indeed put on the final bill . Would never go back,a really bad and unpleasant experience. Brian Thompson

Great bistro in a buzzing street so very popular. Was packed out on a Saturday lunchtime but they found me a table for one inside which is very atmospheric. Lovely staff all round. Properly cut steak tartare and glass of local wine is only €5. Would go again tomorrow were I not flying back to the UK today. Highly recommended

A great restaurant. My friends and I found it by chance while walking through Saint Pierre and it was a success. Service of 10. Friendly, patient and very delicious food. To highlight the duck and the croque monsieur. Marinated with a Bordeaux and with a tasting of its 3 desserts, the delicious creme brulee and the chocolate ingot, we paid €25 per person. They provide free water constantly. Without a doubt a charming place, the terrace reminded us of the movie Amelié.

We selected this restaurant for dinner based on reviews and local recommendations. On a Tuesday night we had to wait for a table for two, with no real place to wait we left and came back. Service was pretty cold, and not exactly welcoming. I ordered the duck breast with fries. It was just okay. My husband got the croque monsieur and was disappointed. We were hoping to try the onion soup, but it wasn’t listed on the menu that night. Another disappointment. Probably our least favorite meal after three weeks in Bordeaux.

I stumbled upon it by chance while running for shelter with friends on a rainy evening without an umbrella. It was a wonderful experience, the staff was very kind, the atmosphere was informal, the food was excellent as were the suggestions for choosing the wine. We ordered an excellent grilled rib eye and drank an excellent Bordeaux. At the end of dinner we asked for a taxi back to the hotel. There was an unexpected delay and the lady who welcomed us was mortified by this. She made several calls to resolve the problem which was definitely not her fault. She did her best to make the wait less painful by entertaining us and offering us an extra digestive (a good Armagnac), finally she accompanied us in the rain to the taxi which evidently had not arrived at the door of the place, finally she took on the honor of the compensation for transportation. What else to say? I was struck by the kindness and thoughtfulness with which we were treated. Needless to say, we returned the next day. It was a wonderful experience: many times I have been fully satisfied with a good restaurant but I don't remember similar courtesy on any other occasion. Thank you. If it were possible I would give one more star at most.

After a few days in Bordeaux I can honestly say this is one of my favourite places, if not my favourite. The food was absolutely delicious and I would reccomend the steak frites - the bavette was of high quality and cooked very well. SO tasty. The wine was great, the service was good, the vibe was wonderful at lunch time in the sun, and the pricing is extremely reasonable. Would recommend to everyone.

This was difficult to rate fairly. I would have given 2, my husband 3 and our daughter and family 4. It was a busy Saturday lunchtime and we were lucky to get a table for six, outside, under the awning. The atmosphere was lively and everyone around us seemed to be local. Service was mixed – our waiter was delightful and helpful but we struggled to get a cold bottle of rose or ice for the ice-bucket. I have to agree with a previous reviewer – my Salad Nicoise was the worst I’ve ever had but the duck burgers, prawn and mango salad and beef tartare were enjoyed by the others. The dessert choices, including Café Gourmand, were presented under a transparent cloche which was good.

Very nice bistro with excellent prices and value (not very common in France). We had the veal andouillette (Sausage which is a specialty of the region) with mustard sauce and French fries. It was big and the best one I ever had. Outstanding and friendly service from Michel, the owner, and his team. Nice grooving music on the pleasant terrace was a plus. We will surely come back when we return to Bordeaux from Budapest. Highly recommended.

Terrible food - both diners had upset stomached almost immediately afterwards. The soup looked amazing - but did not taste amazing. The sausage was disgusting. Tiny portions of salad. Most uncomfortable outdoor chairs. Not the best service. Unclean toilets. Would not recommend.

We absolutely loved our evening at Michel’s. The service was unbelievable and it had great ambiance. We visited on recommendation of a local. The wine was absolutely incredible and very well priced. The two women who looked after us were gracious, personable and friendly. We dined late on a Sunday evening and the restaurant was buzzy and the entire terrace was full. The French Onion soup was a highlight as was the bavette and frites. Definitely recommend!

With my daughter we had croque monsieur/fries (12.90e) and they are really plentiful and delicious. My son had the tartare with a knife which was excellent and my husband the rib's was succulent... In short, we came across this little restaurant by chance one day in good weather... the pretty terrace attracted us... and we did very well to stop there because it is an address to remember!!!
