We had dinner at Velvet last night and sat outside to enjoy the Village atmosphere on a Friday night. Whilst everything was fine, and the service was very good, the food was all a little bland. We had ordered the spicy sweet potato cakes but they weren't spicy and the accompanying dip was very runny with no kick. My partner... More

As a solo traveller, I get a bit tired of being ignored by waitstaff but Velvet takes the cake. If they don't want to tie up a table, then set a two or three person minimum, otherwise, please don;t forget me. An early dinner (before 8), and empty restaurant and it still took 20 minutes to get a beer, then... More

I came here about a year ago, and enjoyed food from a set menu. While the main, a veggie curry with squash, wasn't anything special (overly creamy, under-spiced - just too 'British') my starter was impeccably done. I had soft goat's cheese with toasted almond bread and a small side salad, served with an assortment of pickled veg. It sounded... More

We loved this place so much we ate there 2 evenings running! You can have cocktails upstairs, or drink a bottle of wine sat outside at tables beside the canal, and watch the pretty interesting canal street parade sashay past. Downstairs the tables aren't too close together, the staff are welcoming, friendly and helpful, and the ambience is busy and... More

We went here for my 2nd 50th Birthday meal of the week and can only say that the staff were very friendly and attentive and the food was excellent value and totally gorgeous.

Visited here on the Saturday night of Sparkle weekend with Sally Anne and 5 girl friends. Despite having booked, our table wasn't ready so we enjoyed cocktails upstairs. Not having visited here before (unlike most of my party) I was impressed with the stylish decor and a slight whiff of bohemian atmosphere! When the table was ready and gurls sorted... More

The food was very good and the service was even better. What started as a small group for dinner, grew into a group of over ten of us. The staff gladly expanded our table and sat everyone as they came in. Everyone enjoyed their dinner and all said they would definitely return. Two thumbs up!

A well laid out comfortable restaurant, with a relaxed and un-oppressive atmosphere.. Music was loud enough to listen too, but not so loud as to distract and disrupt conversation. Service was excellent and attentive and we never felt we were not given attention. The meals were very well presented and both of us enjoyed our selection, never feeling like we... More

I have been a "regular" diner here for many years. Always great food, great drink and great service. Never had a bad experience. Food is great price too for what you get. Be back soon.

This used to be an amazing establishment with amazing food. What happened?! Poor food and appalling service. Had issues trying to reserve a table and wish we hadn't bothered and gone to a takeaway for better quality food. Velvet can't even get a fish finger sandwich right. The food was cold and tasteless!!
