The room is very stylish, the staff were very friendly, amusing attentive and helpful. A plaice course was replaced by a chicken one with minimal fuss. The 10 course tasting menu was absolutely superb. Every course was a joy and the vegetables were amazing, it's not often you get to say "wow have you tasted the carrot yet?".

We opted for the 6 course tasting menu with accompanying wine plus an optional cheese course. 4 out the 6 courses were excellent, in particular, the fish course. The meat course (guinea fowl) was ok but lacked the wow factor and in truth the dessert (Cheshire raspberry/oat mix) was disappointing. Wines ranged from ok to excellent but it always nice... More

I came here so long ago I can barely remember the occasion. The place had a reputation for quality going back certainly more than 30 years ago when I and my friends were at catering college. So it's a place I've been wanting to revisit since its latest reincarnation. I have to say that the experience was wonderful. The food... More

A fabulous dining experience in stunning surroundings. My husband and I dined here for our wedding anniversary and it was definitely memorable. The staff were courteous and knowledgeable and the food was interesting as well as delicious. We would highly recommend opting for the wine pairings.

I booked this restaurant on a friends recommendation as a surprise meal for my Girlfriend and I, shortly before going I looked at the TripAdvisor reviews and was a bit nervous after reading a few negative comments. Fortunately I found these to have no foundation whatsoever. The food was absolutely outstanding, I can not stop telling my friends and family... More

We had lunch recently at the French to celebrate our son's graduation from University. A wonderful and diverse taster menu made from fresh locally sourced produce. Expensive but worth every penny and easily as good as anything one would find in London. It is a mystery why they don't have a Michelin star yet...

I visited for a birthday and I have to say there is nothing quite like it in Manchester. Firstly the place itself is beautiful, but its no overdone, its very tasteful and not tacky. The whole atmosphere is calm and refreshing you get the feeling the people are here for the food not to pose like a lot of other... More

We visited here with another couple. It was nice decor and we had the taster menu with wines. It was nice but no wow factor so we felt it was expensive for what it was. The wine list had no middle rang wines. They were £40 bottles or £250+ a bottle. There was no consistency with waiters. Food was brought... More

We visited the French for their 6 course taster menu. The décor was lovely and the staff friendly and attentive. The food was nice, and by the end we were pleasantly full however I just found some of the flavours on the main dish unusual and quite unpleasant, and as a whole some of the dishes lacked the wow factor...
