This fish and chip restaurant has changed its name to ANCHORS but everything else is as good as it has always been. The staff are really friendly and helpful and the fish and chips are the best I’ve ever had.

The credit crunch lunch has vastly increased in price, the portion size is now a fraction of what it used to be and the quality is nowhere near where it used to be. The staff turnover is quite high which is reflected in the poor...service you get from most but not all staff and the staff are usually very young and seem disinterested. I wouldn't expect them to be radiating enthusiasm but a certain level of service would be nice. The sad thing is that it used to be really good and they won an award but they let things slip and took their eye off the ball or lost focus?More
This is my grandmas favorite fish and chip shop. I used to agree with her but the last couple of times I have gone the cod had a soggy batter and the chips weren’t up to the high standard that you would expect. The food...is edible but it doesn’t warrant the price.More
To mirror some other reviews on here, have been going here for years and seems to have deteriorated over the last few months. Today was told whilst sitting in we couldn’t order take away which is something we have done on many occasions. Was forced...to walk outside at the end and into the take out which is the same kitchen. The server apparently apologised to my colleagues saying that the kitchen don’t like the orders coming in that way. But previously said it they weren’t as busy could have done it. There were 4 others tables occupied. There has been a rebrand to ‘Anchors’ but a leaflet on the counter explaining it’s still under the same ownership. Distinct change in staff over the last few months and also portion sizes reduced today. Kitchen wont have to suffer my orders that way anymore as I won’t be returning which is shame as have previously enjoyed. Disappointing...More
chips not freshly cooked , not the best quality Haddock , overpriced. serious improvements required !!
Having ordered a large fish and chips to take away I was disappointed to arrive home to find the fish wasn’t cooked through and was cold inside. I rang up to say I was bringing it back and would like a refund. I was offered...a replacement fish over the phone but declined as I’d finished my chips by this stage. I drove back to the shop and handed over the fish and ask for a credit to my card. I was told that they couldn’t do that and offered a cash refund. Despite an apology on the phone they’re was no further acknowledgement whilst I was in the shop. I felt like it was a problem for them!!! Having been going there for years and always had a great meal in or take away I’ve never had such poor customer service.......More
Wow. My wife and I popped in tonight for some fish and chips. After waiting 20mins with no sign of the food arriving, we decided we’d go elsewhere and asked for a refund. Seriously chippy (!) young bloke with beard in charge of the frying...became aggressive and slammed the money on the counter. I said he had a bad attitude and I got a load of verbal and I think he even talked about knocking me out at one point. Told me to “do one” and I was happy to. Thought a chippy was fast food? Went to another chippy (Battered Cod in Ladybarn) and in/out in minutes. I know Fosters is a busy place and the young lady was very nice and apologetic but the aggressive bloke is seriously in the wrong job.More
We have been visiting Fosters for the last 4 years and I’m really disappointed how downhill it has gone in the last few months. There have been some changes in staff and the service is currently very poor. The staff seem more interested in socialising...with each other than serving customers. We ordered take away and the food was cold, the portions were very uneven with one of them significantly smaller than the other than the other, despite being the same order. We used to be really impressed by the service and food here but won’t be returning after the poor service and food we received this time.More
we came in here expecting a great experience because of the reputation..unfortunately your only as good as you are now, and now your terrible! we was given menus by a young woman with no hello or smile, she went behind the bar to be more...interested in her phone! maybee ordering more suitable shoes for the job---- the doc Martin's didn't quite go with the nose rings... Personality was not her strong point, it's a shame she is concentrating more on her style and mobile phone, than on her job and customers. we felt like we were an inconvenience and did not stay for anything more than our main meals, of which I must say also did not live up to reputation. Such a pity as I am sure a business like this could be fantastic with people who care about what they are doing. Sadly it will be a long time before I return and try again.More
Came to celebrate with my family for dads birthday. Lovely fish n chips. Great for my sister too who is Gluten Free. Couldn't finish them all as fantastic portions. Staff lovely and nothing too much trouble. Thank you x
