Gorgeous place for a few drinks before dinner in Manchester for a special occasion, the waiter was very helpful and lovely, suggesting different wines for us

Our table got pushed back 15 minutes just to get there and it be pushed back another 15 minutes making us wait in the rain. Once we arrived they offered us a free round so we ordered and they brought us free cheap drinks and...were going to make us pay for our round we ordered. Would not recommendMore

Went out for date night with my boyfriend hoping for romantic night and got horrendous food poisoning. Put off oysters forever clearly were not fresh, would not trust any of their fresh seafood such a disappointment for a first time visit especially when we ate...raw tuna as well really worrying. Everything else was so on point, staff were amazing and so attentive and felt very looked after slightly cold staff almost snooty but all in all had a good time.More

After attending a business photo shoot I asked the sales manager I think her name may of been rachel.. She was nothing but helpfl ul on the day of the shoot, I asked her to book a table for me and my boyfriend for dinner...she praised the place highly...(however I think this may of been biased). We arrived on time for dinner at 8.45pm, we were greeted by a tall guy on the host stand who was lovely and a girl with dark hair took us to our table..we were seated in a booth on the left hand side of the restaurant and were told a server would be over shortly...the server came over I think she was called Charlotte she was absolutely amazing and suggested some great dishes however when they arrived the tempura prawns were soggy, spinach was wet and salty but the beef skewers and chicken satay were really good. I appreciate that because of recent restrictions, the music was not at a loud level and this put a dampener on the vibe through no fault of the restaurant but what really let it down was there were several male members of staff I think they may have been managers as they were suited walking about in a very aggressive manner and it just felt overall a little uncomfortable. I don't think they realised how loud they were being when they walked past the table and I heard one of them say "they've been sat there for f**cking hours get them off" which we were very taken aback. Do they not the custom at this time? Whilst this was not clearly aimed at us, it made us think twice that we were in a place whereby management are only bothered about an easier life and not about well paying customers. No matter how popular or how fancy a menu is, staff attitude can make all the difference. We saw a few other reviews on here with the same problem and feel nothing is being done to rectify this. Food was OK but we won't come back again.More

Visited Sunset by Australasia on Friday 11th September around 10pm on a recent trip to Manchester for my friends birthday. They would not allow online bookings for drinks for parties of 2 - no problem, we decided to just wait as we really wanted to...go. Turned up and told it would be up to an hours wait and we were asked to sit on the benches outside which was fine - it then started to rain and we were getting soaked for much of this time but as we had already waited for around 20 mins, we decided to hold off. The security man kindly got us an umbrella to use (the one good thing I can say about the place). A while later, we were told our table was ready so we headed inside. It was clear that there was no table ready as we stood by the reception desk for a few minutes, getting asked to stand in all different locations (including outside in rain again) while the staff shouted at each other right beside us (note height of COVID lockdown in Manchester). Finally, we were sat at a beautiful table in the conservatory which made the wait worth it. As we sat down we realised that the cushions had practically fallen off the couch so moved these up which was fine, not a big issue. We placed our cocktail orders with our waitress and while waiting, within 10 minutes of sitting down we were approached by the host and asked if we could move to a table inside. I politely refused and said we were settled at our table and had waited a long time and would like to stay. She walked away and came back with security hanging over her back (no need) insisting that we moved inside. You shouldn’t move people because of your own disorganisation of bookings! Despite this, we got up and moved and asked if we could have the next table became available outside. We were sat at our table inside for 10 minutes with no sign of a drink, at which point we asked the waitress (dark hair) where they were. Obviously forgot and they appeared 5 mins later. We also mentioned to her about moving back outside when possible so she was aware. Over the course of sitting inside multiple tables freed up. Obviously being made aware we were unhappy, the manager came over to apologise and advise we would be sat outside ASAP. A drink or something on the house would have been a nice touch! Despite this over an hour passed, with no moving and no waitress asking about further drinks orders. We were totally forgotten hidden behind a daft plant in the corner. No other word from manager, etc. When we finally got the waitresses attention after being ignored, we then asked to see the wine list and an iPad was abruptly slammed down on the table in front of us without a word. After waiting 25 minutes for her to come over and take said drinks order, we decided enough was enough as we had been in the place for just under 2 hours and managed to get one drink in this time, had experienced awful customer service and was just not what we expected. We asked for the bill, asked the service charge to be removed, paid and left. As we walked out we noticed 2/3 tables totally empty which if they gave a care about customer satisfaction, we could have been sat at! Moreover, the staff (particularly doorman) observed ZERO social distancing rules, no masks, no visors, employees and customers shaking hands, hugging, etc. Even seen the manager do this. Toilets were disgusting, used toilet paper everywhere and not clean. If you care about cleanliness or your safety right now, would advise against going! I can’t help but think this place would have went out of business a long time ago, had it not been pretty and ‘instagrammable’. On a side note, visited Menagarie/FOODWELL/kitchen 202 for dinner and drinks on other nights and could not fault them - much better Manchester hot spots.More

I took a trip to Sunset with my two housemates, having been to Australia 5-10 times. Unfortunately, I can’t report a service anywhere near the standard of the restaurant. After a rather painful ordering process, I headed to the toilets. Upon arrival, I found a poor...young lady stranded without a toilet paper. When I enquired to the waiter, he told her to go to Australasia (the restaurant downstairs). Slightly embarrassed, I headed down that way whilst the young lady refused to move in order to sanitise herself. Whilst walking down the stairs, I happened to cross the two waiters that had served my table. Unfortunately I happened to Hear upon their conversation!... “Why the f**** are they ordering food, who do they think they are?” Unfortunately, that referred to my table and an order placed 7 hours before closing time...... Removing the optional service charge was a grievance for the aforementioned staff. It’s good to know that my custom is valued, as they didn’t send a manager over to reflect on the experience. This experience doesn’t reflect the service in Australasia, which, to be honest, is outstanding. I think I’ll save my money next time.More

After a great start in terms of drinks, we ordered several small plates. The food was lovely but also our last plates were forgotten about until we reminded our server. Then after the food finally arrived, when trying to order another drink we were told...we were too drunk to order? We had had about 3 drinks each yet told we were slurring our words even though the table next to us was ordering shots clearly more intoxicated than us. Didn’t appreciate being told we couldn’t order more drinks despite the money we’d paid.More
