My husband and I came here for his birthday. We went straight there after I finished work in Manchester so we were there for just after 5 on a Wednesday. The staff were very attentive, and when they found out it was his birthday they got him a card, sang him happy birthday and gave him a complimentary ice cream.... More

Overall the restaurant was nice and the service attentive, we ordered a mixture of dishes to share and most of them were tasty and well presented. However the exception was Lily Kwoks chicken curry, which had a big write up and picture on the menu as a signature dish - beware, it was nothing at all like the picture and... More

My daughter arranged to meet me after she had finished an exam in the city centre. She had booked a table at Sweet Mandarin as I had often spoke of it but never been. Situated in the bustling Northern Quarter a perfect location for a warm Friday evening. We where greeted with a warm welcome by the staff and seated... More

Makes a point of being different, but that's not what a Chinese is all about. Try making decent food. Well worth the shoe leather to make your way to Chinatown where you could find a dozen better places.

So disappointed!! 2 dishes very poor - chicken in blackbean sauce, and beef ho fun, which we sent back to the kitchen due lack of flavour. Starters are particularly overpriced - small portion of prawn crackers £3.50, dried-out ribs and soggy squid close to £7 each. Can only presume this restaurant has sat back on its laurels due to its... More

Been wanting to try for a while so when I saw on groupon I thought we should give it a go. Staff were lovely and starters came extremely fast. Then felt rather rushed as main came before my starter plate had even been taken away. We ordered Cantonese pork but received steak ok this was a genuine mistake of the... More

Having past this restaurant for the last few years always wanted to try but never getting around it it, we finally got round to visiting last week and we wasn't disappointed! The service was fantastic, the setting was lovely and wine was great. It goes without saying that the food was outstanding. Good quality, authentic food. Will definitely recommend to... More

I don't eat many Chinese meals anymore since I went to Hong Kong 20+ years ago (I used have at least 1 a week before then), and quite frankly have found that everything I've tried since in the UK has been very poor by comparison; unfortunately this restaurant has done nothing to change that view (and, if you look at... Welcomed into the restaurant by the staff. Staff knowledgeable about gluten free drinks and have a separate menu. Prawn crackers and dip provided free. One chicken meal arrived in batter but we didnt remember it stating in batter on the menu. Sweet and sour chicken was good and rice very nice. Strange to see a 10% service charge added to... More

Description
Sweet Mandarin stands out on the Manchester restaurant scene for its vibrant, cosmopolitan atmosphere, modern Chinese menu and killer cocktails. Located in the chic Design House on Copperas Street, the award-winning restaurant is based on a simple philosophy: quick service, delicious pan Asian cooking and value for money. Whether you're in the mood for a memorable meal in the minimalist dining room, or after-work cocktails, celeb-spotting and Chinese tapas in the bar – this is the place for you. Working in a theatrical exhibition kitchen, the high-energy chefs use Mandarin style woks and traditional techniques to prepare classic dishes such as beef with sweet peppers and black bean sauce; Shanghai vegetables with garlic and chilli sauce; and General Tse's sweet and sour chicken
