This review is of the Bistro at the Cotswold House Hotel. Years ago this place was called Hicks and we loved it. It changed hands a few years ago but was still pretty good. We went there today and were very disappointed in its latest reincarnation. We were hoping for a proper lunch but the main course offerings were very... More

Birthday celebration with family and helped by use of Gourmet Society discount. The restaurant was displaced by renovation work in the main building but the alternative garden room was more than adequate. Service was good and friendly but food was slow to appear and although reasonably cooked a bit of flair was missing. Some of the problems may relate to... More

We enjoyed a wonderful light evening meal early on a Friday evening when the town was busy, but Cotswold House's "Bistro on the Square" was still quite empty. Excellent service, a great broccoli and stilton soup and mussels in white wine cream dish, plus a well-presented "Cotwold mess" (like Eton mess) desert. A pleasing end to a busy day's sightseeing.... Living locally, this was our first visit. Let down points were having nowhere comfortable for pre-dinner drinks, a lounge area is sadly lacking. Instead, we had to drink in the public bar which lacks a certain welcoming ambience for diners. Service in the bar a bit add-hoc, normally one would expect Menus to have been brought to us whereas I... More

My finance and I had a bad experience with the food at the hotel we were staying in so decided to look around for somewhere else. We found this hotel and loved the look of the food! All I can say is we're so glad we did! The place was elegant, quiet and the service was impeccable, attentive but not... More

We met friends here for lunch. The fish and chips were good with an acceptable quantity but the Sea Trout and the Fregola were rather nouvelle cuisine like in quantity but otherwise ok. We all had desserts which again were quite good but not exceptional. We had checked out their website before we went but the wine list page was... More

We stayed at the Cotswold House Hotel and on the second evening decided to eat "in". What a good decision!! Food and service were second to none.

On our last night in the Cotswolds I decided to surprise my wife with a Mother's Day dinner somewhere nicer than all the pubs we'd been frequenting; the menu here looked good so I made a reservation. The food was pretty good (but not outstanding) and the service was satisfactory (but not excellent); I'd expected more from this restaurant since... More

Description
Dave Watts, our Head chef has a simple philosophy - that great food should be seasonal, sustainable and responsible. Winner of The Good Food Guide 2013 Chef to Watch award. Having trained under Raymond Blanc and Gary Jones at Le Manoir aux Quat' Saisons he believes that if you start with the best possible ingredients, you can't go far wrong. His style is modern British and what he calls rustic but neat - natural shapes and textures, and nothing too complicated; each plate, each course, offers a new experience. You won’t find pretentious service just great attention to detail and sublime food – in refined and dignified surroundings with dreamy views down the garden path. The restaurant is open each night from Tuesday until Saturday from 7 until 9.30pm.
